Dairy Queen — Restaurant in Hallettsville

UPDATE 05/30/2024 Ten months ago I entered a review. We thought we'd try DQ again, hoping things had changed. OMG, this place HAS gotten worse. The food tasted like warmed up left-overs. The soda fountain was still void of Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, and Coke products. The place was filthy, and the flies were horrendous. To answer my previous question "could this place get any worse?" YES. IT DID. This abomination of a DQ is a stain on the DQ name. And don't even ask Sarah for anything. The attitude was unbelievable. And, true to form, the manager is still unavailable when you ask to speak to them. I'll never waste a penny in this trash pit again. Obviously the owners, and DQ Texas for that matter, could care less about a once fine establishment.

We have been eating here for years, but in the last year, there has been a steady decline. Today was the culmination of that decline.

The floors were absolutely filthy. The floors looked as if they haven't been mopped or cleaned in a month. When you walked across the dining area, your feet stuck to the floor. The tables were horrible. Stuck on food on many of them. And some of the benches for the booths felt like they were coated in glue they were so sticky.

The soda machine, again, was out of Dr Pepper and several other drinks, and the tea dispensers were once again, EMPTY!!

After finally finding a clean table, it took over 25 minutes to get food. We were getting up to ask for our money back when our food finally arrived.

My sons burger was cold and soggy, as were the fries. My Jalitos Ranch burger was cold, soggy ( the bun fell apart when I picked it up) and drowning in sauce. The fries, alas, were cold and nasty as well.

At this point, we were done.

We'll not be returning. DQ in Hallettsville has finally hit rock bottom. We miss the old days when this was a great place to eat,

The service is terrible. I tried calling in an order and they never answered the phone. When I confronted the mgr about it she said we're to busy. I said to her a customer on the phone is just as important as the drive thru and at the counter. I reported it to thier corporate office who called and asked them why they didn't answer. The mgr stated they had a bus there at 7 pm which I told her I was there at 940 pm and there was no bus there. Instead of telling the truth she twisted her lie to make it the reason why they never answered the phone. Corporate stated that the store is very high in sales and is a profitable store. I told her because nothing is open past 9pm in this small town and they're the only ones open on Sundays. Of course nothing was done to rectiy the issue and others have told me the same thing trying to order over the phone is nearly impossible. I'm from Houston and Dairy Queen I used to go to was way busier than Yoakum and the wait time was about 5-8 minutes not 40 minutes. But I guess it comes down to management if u don't know how to schedule and utilize employees and know when ur busy times are it's never going to change. So I guess it's never going to change and they'll never answer the phone and pay for cold food that...

I came here when we first moved to Hallettsville, about 2 years ago, and it was so dirty and the staff were so rude that I didn't come back. My husband came back for lunch one day and he said it was so dirty that he was afraid to eat the burger he ordered. We heard some rumors that they did some changes so I decided to give it another try. I'm really glad that I did because I was very pleased with the service this time. The cashier, and "doer" of everything it seems, was very friendly and made sure my order was correct - when I ordered it and when she brought it to the table. She seemed very busy taking orders, making drinks and blizzard treats and cleaning and delivering orders and taking care of the drive thru that I was surprised she still had a smile on her face but she did. The floor was a little dirty but they just had a lunch rush and a bus full of teenagers eating here after a tournament. The staff started cleaning up as soon as the kids left though. Food was hot and fresh when delivered. I didn't have to wait long for it, and it was delivered with a smile. I'll definitely be back now. ...
