The short version: Traditional donut shop. Lots of seating. Lots of choices. All good!
The long version: I'm a donut guy. It's pastries over atmosphere in my book! But in this case, both are present. When I say this is a traditional donut shop, I mean it. Dark, lots of seats, lots of wood, lots of coffee pots and a drink case filled with dozens of choices. And the front of the store is dominated by a multi-bay glass case with racks of donuts. Each of the two days I've been there, there were at least three dozen varieties.
The first time I was there they had bacon maple bars. I leap to tell you this because the ine I got wasn't just good, it was RIGHT. The donut was light, moist, but not greasy. The maple icing wasn't too thick, but it was a good layer. It was also moist - not dried out or flakes, even though my visit was after 10 am - pretty late for a donut shop. And the bacon was PERFECTLY CRISPY! I've almost never had a bacon donut that was made without the bacon getting soft, soggy, or chewy, but this place did it!
I added two other donuts - a filled and a cake, and they were both top notch too.
What made it all even better was that my three donuts (including two fancies) and a bottle of milk came to $6.50. That's amazing! I expected to be closer to $10. Thanks, Donut Country!
My only con (because I have to find one problem everywhere I go, right?) Is that on my second visit, the icing on my fried cinnamon roll was on the flaky side - maybe a bit too much powdered sugar in the mix? But that was offset by the fact that the donut itself was fabulous, as was the bear claw I had that day. Uniquely, the bears around here apparently have ten toes...
The bottom line: Great donuts, affordable prices, and a nice place (the people seemed nice too). If you want a donut, this is a great place to stop. I've already been twice, and I look forward to...
Read moreWhile i been coming here for over 30 years and the donuts are great, it really upsets me that they charge 45 cents for using a card under a 6 dollar charge this is up from 35 cents for a 5 dollar charge last year. When i try to inform them that its an illegal practice in california the staff is usally rude about it. Its not about the 45 cents its more about there attitude regarding the issue. It just appears greedy when all of your products are under 6 dollars. A single individual is paying more for his small amount of product than someone ordering more. Some will say its to cover credit processing fees but only a small amount of places still charge for this. While i know small business is a struggle its seems to be a common charge among greedy independent...
Read moreMy wife says "AMAZING", and I am inclined to agree. Super delicious donuts, and prices are not bad at all. I'm sure everyone has that hometown donut shop they all remember, or a place they have visited that has that mom and pop donut shop. This is that place for Hanford. It's a friendly environment, easy to get to, great service, and the spread of donuts is large. They have maple bacon bars, which for me seemed hard to find around here, but not at Donut County, they are fresh, and delicious. We will continue to visit, and...
