Exquisite food, although there were a couple of bumps that made it a not quite perfect experience.
My appetizer, bacon-wrapped shrimp, was every bit as delicious as it sounded. The Caesar salad was very good with a nice tangy dressing and lots of parmesan. I ordered my entree, a T-bone steak, rare, and while I was initially disappointed to see it was closer to medium rare with almost no red in the center, it was still melting in my mouth and came off the bone like it had been slow cooked for hours. The burgundy mushrooms I ordered on the side were exquisite and intensely flavorful, and, lastly, I was pleased to see a favorite whiskey, Tullamore Dew, on the list of spirits, which was a wonderful accompaniment to my entree, and I was equally pleased to be brought a bottle of Tabasco when I requested hot sauce.
The reasons I deducted a star are:
I ordered a cappuccino as my coffee course, and it turned out to be not a shot of espresso and a lot of milk foam, but a latte with what I think was cinnamon powder sprinkled on top, and the espresso was rather more bitter than I expected. A cappuccino is a shot of espresso, a small amount of milk, and very thoroughly aerated milk foam, such that the aeration makes it sweet enough to balance the intense flavors of the espresso. While I realize that it's a steakhouse and not a coffee shop, if I'm offered a cappuccino, I expect a cappuccino. I wasn't expecting it to be a good cappuccino, but it wasn't a cappuccino at all.
The cutesy branded steak knives struggled to cut through the meat, despite the exquisite tenderness of the steak. I realize that it's impractical to have someone sit around sharpening them or at least running them over a hone after every use, but I'd rather they give me a generic serrated steak knife than the one that cut only slightly better than my butter knife. (I checked.)
When I order a rare steak at a steakhouse I expect it to be red in the center. If it hadn't been so tender and succulent despite being overdone I might have mentioned it to the server, who was an absolute gem, but in future visits I'll try to emphasize that when I say rare I mean rare.
My companions were equally pleased with their own food, although they didn't find their cocktails quite as good as they'd hoped; the apple sangria was rather sweeter than expected, due to the inclusion of both simple syrup and soft apple cider (rather than hard cider) and the old fashioned was pronounced "okay." The chocolate martini after dinner, however, was exactly what my friend was hoping for.
Overall, I can absolutely recommend Prime as a steakhouse, but don't expect top-tier...
Read moreWent for an early Valentine's Day dinner. My husband made this reservation online using open table in DECEMBER.
As the reservation date was approaching he called just to confirm since it had been booked 2 months ago.
Just an FYI if you reserve with open table apparently they have a specific area for those reservation.... Only in bar area. We did not want to sit in that area as it was our first time there so he had asked if we could be seated elsewhere. The person on the phone was reluctant to accommodate us but in the end we were able to be seated in a different location.
I will say this, the place gets PACKED.
They had a special Valentine's Day menu which we ordered from. The regular menu looked good as well but it is different than menu on the website.
For an appetizer we had the fried calamari. Very good, wasn't over cooked, wasn't soaked in oil.
The small sauce cup could have been a little bigger and hotter, maybe a few more lemon wedges but overall it good.
Drinks, I had the Chocolate dipped Strawberry Martini which wasn't bad. Hubby had a beer.
Time for our salad. Hubby went with a Caesar and I had the blue cheese wedge. He said he enjoyed his salad and it was a decent size too. My salad was also decent size and the chunks of blue cheese were tasted throughout.
On to our meals, Hubby went with the Prime Rib/Lobster tail combo. I had the Filet Mignon/Lobster tail combo.
He said his was very good and melted in your mouth. Mine was just as good. The lobster tail was not rubbery but the butter sauce it came with was ice cold. We also both picked a baked potato as our side. While we did ask that butter and sour cream be placed on the side it was infact put ON. Not really a big deal.
For dessert I did mention we were using the Valentine's menu and asked if we could get a plain slice of cheesecake instead of the cherry one on the menu. Our server said sure.... But we were given the cherry one anyway. Again, not a big deal because at this point we were both stuffed and we did pick at it to try it (it wasn't for me).
Overall there were just small little things but the service was good, staff was friendly, our server Emily was super nice. We would...
Read moreThis was mine and my boyfriend’s first time here. We got sat down at a really wobbly table and asked if we could be moved to a booth. Our waiter agreed told us he was going to tell the hostess about the change. It took him at least 10 minutes to come back to us to finally put our order in meanwhile 20 minutes prior he said he was putting bread in the oven for us. Two people got sat after us and got the complimentary bread before us.. I’m grateful they give out the free bread but just a bit annoying to say you’ll get the bread right out and never do. mind you it’s a Sunday and not Very busy.
We order the mozzarella stick thinking it would be a homemade appetizing considering the 11.99 price tag. Was extremely disappointed when they brought out what I like to call them “baseball game mozzarella sticks” . I got a salad with my meal. That was very good, greens were fresh and bright.
Now the entrees. I got a New York strip steak, it was good, juicy, flavorful. I got the garlic mashed potatoes on the side, no garlic flavor, lacked any flavor in general. Nothing to write home about. My boyfriend got a Porter house, he enjoyed that a lot as well as a side of fries. They are just the normal coated French fry nothing crazy.
On to the worst part of the night. I ordered chocolate covered strawberries. Wow were they terrible. Not only are they over $14, I got 4 very small ones that barely had chocolate on them and the Chocolate that was on I could barely taste. I tasted the chocolate on its own and i Think they use ganache. I wish that was described on the menus as that as I would not have purchase those.
Overall, if you’re looking for a fancier meal to treat your loved ones. Go somewhere else. There’s comparable restaurants near that have better food for about the price to lower then...
