Fresh Start Cafe — Restaurant in Harlem Township

The day before Thanksgiving I was desperate to find a restaurant that delivered a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner in Loves Park, Illinois. Search as I did, the only possible solutions were chinese and italian, not what I was hoping for. Then I found Fresh Start Cafe, and just on a prayer I called them and got Eri on the phone. I asked about Thanksgiving Dinner and the answer was yes they were preparing that, but no they did not deliver. She graciously asked why I was inquiring, and I told her that my 86 year old sister had fallen last week, her arm in a cast from a broken wrist, and all her children were either out of town, or intimidated by COVID. She told me she would indeed delivery my sister her Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings as well as dessert as I requested. What is above and beyond is that she did this even though she doesn't offer delivery, and only charged me $5 to deliver this meal. Upon delivery, my sister called me with such happiness in her voice, I would have paid 100 times the price just to make her day like this! Eri, you are truly a gift from God!...

Service was great but sadly the food just wasn’t good at all. I ordered several dishes and all was a fail. Im a grown adult so if something isn’t the best I can just finish what’s in my mouth and throw it out.. after everything else failed i was happy that I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy! One bite and I ran to the trash to spit it out.. i hate to leave a negative review because I want a small business with great service to achieve, this was my second time coming here and I thought I just caught this on a bad day the first time before but this sealed the deal for me. I literally threw $35 worth of food in the trash & that wasn’t including the tip for carry out. Let me first start by telling you that the service and the food are absolutely fantastic! A great family restaurant where they actually refer to you by name which is unheard of nowadays! Everyone is so friendly and it is definitely the place to go! My absolute Philly beef on the planet! Great job you guys thank you for being so nice and always giving such great service and great food! It's so nice coming in to see all of you! And every time I leave when I get to the door I say as loud as I can goodbye everybody! Always smiles and goodbyes from everyone in the restaurant just like we are all friends! Amazing environment!
