We were excited to dine here and were celebrating my birthday. It is quite expensive, but they advertise fine dining and we decided to splurge. We looked at the reviews and there were many good reviews. We should have paid attention to the poor reviews, they are far more honest and accurate than the positive reviews. I am guessing people struggled with saying anything negative about a nonprofit restaurant/experience. The ambience is quite nice, although they refused to turn on the fireplace on a December evening, because they said it would get too warm. The waitress was very friendly. However, she was the only staff member we saw. She greeted people at the door, served the tables, bussed, the tables and so on. As you can imagine, service was slow. We were there for three hours, I ordered the rosemary leg of lamb and my husband ordered the chĆ¢teau Brion. We love good food and love to eat, and anyone that knows me, knows that I never leave my food unfinished. We each were only able to eat about three bites of our entrĆ©e, because they were absolutely inedible. I couldnāt even eat more than a couple of bites of the chocolate gingerbread dessert. My lamb looked like something that was pressed from a mold and my husbandās chĆ¢teau Breon tasted like vinegar. This was the most disappointing experience we have ever had in a restaurant. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, and I will never return. We will chalk this experience up to a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDining here was a wonderful experience. The interior was cozy and well-decorated. We made a reservation for high tea (7 courses), at a very reasonable price, and they allocated us 2.5 hours which was the perfect amount of time. The staff was very kind and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Each guest got their own teapot with their choice of tea. Most dishes were served family-style.
There are limited numbers of tables and staff. During our meal, we watched many guests wait for their table. One group had waited an hour past their reservation time. If you make a reservation, please respect your given time allocation to allow for other guests to be able to experience this wonderful place!
Before making a reservation, be sure to review their dress code (no facial piercings, conceal tattoos, below-the-knee dresses, sleeved shirts, etc.) and etiquette. Phone calls are not allowed to be taken on the property, but you are able to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisit website before going, it is on monastery grounds so there is a strict dress code. Also you need to make reservations as it on only open a couple days a week. The only choice you have is what hot tea you get (at least a dozen choices). You can also get a vegetarian option. First course is soup, followed by 4 different appetizers(cucumber sandwich, artichoke on bread, roast beef on bread and tomato and something on bread this time) then your meat (or vegetarian option, both times portabella mushroom) on a salad. Meat for both times was chicken, fall apart tender and nicely seasoned. The salad dressing was very good, this time there was an edible flower. Dessert (two kinds) were very good (this time an apple caramel pastry and a tiny brownie bite). Wait staff is very attentive. It is a bit expensive, but was very good. Before or after your meal you can visit the gardens surrounding the restaurant. They are beautiful...
