Let me preface this buy saying that I do NOT often give 5 stars for restaurants, and this is going to be pretty long. My first impression as I walked into this bar is, it's HUGE and well lit and while it has a warehouse feel because of the size and ceiling height, I got a sense of cleanliness. We were seated by our waitress, and sat down to decide on our meals. My second first impression, this time of the menu, it's not enormous, which I truly appreciated, and the prices seemed quite reasonable overall, given the our current economic hardships. My wife decided on fish fry, and I went with chicken and waffles. Meanwhile the waitress was very pleasant and attentive. My third first impression was the food. My wife's meal was two nice sized pieces of fried fish with malt vinegar on one side, tartar sauce on the other. The fries were honestly mediocre, but that fish... when I say it was audibly crispy all the way to the last bite, I absolutely mean it. The flavor was light and quite good. One of the better ones I've tasted, and I'm from Wisconsin where fish fries are a religion all their own, preyed upon every Friday (see what I did there?). The impression of my dish at first was slight disappointment as it wasn't as "big" as I anticipated or hoped for, but please read on. I've had chicken and waffles at a fair amount of places in my life, including one of Guy Fieri's restaurants, and it was quite easily the best flavor I've had. I really hoped for bone in full pieces of chicken, but instead were two pieces of breast (not full pieces). Somehow though, with the delicious hot honey slathered all over it, and a delicious waffle that was already sweet on its own, I was quite satisfied. This is where my first impression of my dish felt wrong. When I think back at the price of the dish, I feel like this was a very appropriate amount of food, and I didn't have that overly full, unpleasant feeling when you finish all your food because it was so damned delicious. I could, honestly, have purchased 2 of this plate for the same price as other places charge for one, and with inferior taste and quality. So, 5 stars. 5 big, beautiful gold stars. After reading some other reviews, we're definitely getting the deviled eggs next time, and there will definitely be a next time. On the way out, we were checked on by the hostess, who also brought us our food, and turned out to be the owner, Nellie herself, who was so friendly and cool (or whatever is the current replacement for cool... fire maybe?). I'm not a professional food critic or anything, but I criticize food often (what can I say, I'm my mother's son), but other than the french fries, this meal was beyond reproach! Such a cool place to have in our little...
Read moreThe food is great, but the atmosphere is overstimulating. The lights are very bright and when we went there wasn’t any music so it was just the sound of the crowd and sacks hitting the boards. Our server said that there’s normally music though. It was important to me to write a review because the place has great potential. It’s about time Harriman got a restaurant with gourmet food! Why just cornhole though? Why not add some pool tables, offer a dance night, host a trivia night, etc.. also while our server Katie was amazing, when we ordered our drinks we were informed they would be a second because the bartender had to step out. I bartended for several years and if I had to go change a keg or whatever I would find a manager or trusted person to watch my bar. Just a tip ;). We didn’t end up waiting too long on our drinks though, and it was refreshing that Katie gave us a heads up instead of just leaving us sitting there waiting. So I totally give her 5 stars, she was great. We also did have a manager visit our table unprompted and I’ve missed having that happen at places! We ordered the trio with wings- hot, cheese sticks, and the blue deviled eggs. The blue deviled eggs were delicious! Perfect combo, brilliant recipe! Also, we’re like serious about our wings and those are definitely the best I’ve...
Read moreWe had a disappointing first visit to this unique restaurant. We came in around 6 pm. on a Wednesday and were seated right away. Our drink orders included 2 unsweetened ice teas with lemon. The tea came with no lemon, and no straws were provided. When the waitress returned a few minutes later to take our order, we asked for the lemon that was forgotten plus straws. The waitress returned a few minutes later with the straws but no lemon and said she would bring it right out. A few minutes later, she returned and said she was sorry, but they were out of lemons! Two of us ordered fish and chips with tarter sauce. Unfortunately, when the food came out, there was no coleslaw (as per the menu), no tarter sauce and of course no lemon with the meals. We had to ask the waitress for the coleslaw and tarter. She came back in a few minutes and said they were out of coleslaw. She asked if we wanted to order something else instead of offering a replacement item. We've been to enough restaurants to understand that sometimes things run out, but running out of a staple like lemons and a major side dish should at a minimum be known by the servers on such a short menu. Offer an alternative upfront to avoid this kind of...
