I started my morning off wanting a delicious Cantories steak & cheese sub. Best in town imo. They are closed Mondays. So, I read reviews on C&S because I've never tried it and I drive by it often. I expected great food & portions and a frumpy old guy to take my order (if they ever answered) just as the reviews led me to believe. I called at 11:05 am to place a take-out order. I got what I expected. The first attempt it rang probably 15 times and I got voicemail. The second try it rang probably 7 times and I got the frumpy man who was less than happy to be taking my order and very short and thankless. I got there and being the only customer I wasn't acknowledged, ever, by any of the three staff until the food was all wrapped up. The only spoken words were "steak & Cheese and Gyro?" and "thirteen sixty-two" or whatever it was. No "hello, welcome to C&S" or "thank you". Whatever, I don't care. I'm getting a great friggin meal because the reviews said so.... Right? Wrong.
Steak and cheese: WORST I've ever had. Probably 5 ounces of dry, flavorless steak and cartilage. I asked for salt and pepper, by the way. None of that. The cheese was... What cheese? None of it was melted into the meat like a good sub should have. What I could find was burnt or stuck to the bread. The ends were empty and dry as shown in photos. Overall very dry and tasteless...much like the cook. Huge fail.
The gyro: good(er). Lots of well done meat, fresh tomatoes, onions and runny tzatziki sauce. Yum. Good bread with that. I'm glad I ordered two things because hucked the steak and "cheese" in the garbage with prejudice.
Food cost: low, just like their standards and my expectations.
C&S: do...
Read moreOrdered from here twice while staying here at the holiday inn express. First time was a good experience, pizza and wings were better than any chain store. Second time .... a turn for the WORST. Ordered pizza and wings, with two liters of cola. Upon calling at 8:07 p.m., placed the order and the male on the phone said it would be here in 45 minutes. An hour and 20 minutes later, after trying to call several times, the guy arrives and looked like he came straight from the meth lab. Severely dark circles under his eyes.. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't charcoal or makeup and it wasnt. I was starving so I took the food and tipped the guy 10 bucks. I didnt feel like complaining that the completely forgot about my two liters of drinks .... I wasn't going to wait for him to go get them and come back, so I just went to the vending machine in the hotel. After all this, the chicken wings were raw on the inside. I have already called 4 times by this point and I look at the receipt to make sure I paid for the drinks and what do you know...my whole entire credit card info was written on the receipt, expiration date and 3 digit code on the back. Why? I work during the day and there's no phone service so I can't call to check to see if this crackhead is dipping in my account. Glad I have a good bank that will make things right if that's the case. Pizza was not even decent this round, wings were bloody and the drinks were nonexistent...just like the phone calls that were not answered. I wrote this off as a complete loss. Call Cantores pizza...they...
Read moreI was in White River Junction, Vermont for several days for business and I came here for lunch and dinner on two separate occasions. The food was so good and I love pizza, so it was an easy choice to go back. I would have eaten here more if there weren't so many other restaurants to try out in the area.
On my first visit, for dinner, I was super hungry and went with a small pizza with sausage and mushrooms and a side of cheese sticks. The pizza was very fresh and piping hot, so I started on the cheese sticks first. They were good and served with marinara sauce. The pizza was simply amazing: the crust and sauce was so good and the toppings were really delicious.
On my next visit, for lunch, I asked the guy if I should try a calzone or a grinder, and he said both are really good, but maybe try the calzone, so I went with that. I had one with sausage and mushrooms (my two favorite ingredients). Again, it was served hot and fresh and was super tasty with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
The place feels a little quirky and the front door is really loud every time someone comes in and out, but what really matters is the good service and excellent food that I had. And the prices seemed reasonable to me for what I got. If I have to come back here, I will definitely visit C&S...
