WEDDING CAKE SHOPPERS BEWARE It's hard for me to believe that I'm about to write a negative review for Mozzicato's Bakery, but I'm so deeply upset and offended by what has happened to my wedding cake that I feel that I have to forewarn other people. Mozzicato's was my family's favorite bakery for over a decade (ever since we moved to central CT) and not a party went by without my family getting a fruit cake from Mozzicato's. So when I was planning my wedding there was no question as to which cake and from where I will be having for my wedding. Even though I had my special day in RI my parents drove the cake all the way from CT. Just as we were about to cut the cake I remember being super excited about the fruit cake my guests and I were about to share. I even made a little speech about the fact that we're about to have my favorite cake. As we cut the cake I realized that it wasn't what we ordered. In fact, it was a blah-type of cake with plain white filling. A type of cake one can buy in any supermarket if one doesn't care about dessert... Some of my guests tried it out of politeness, but not a single person had more than a few bites. I ended up having to order desserts from the venue we had our wedding at. A few days later I wrote a very nice email to Mozzicato's explaining what have happened and asking for my parents to be reimbursed, which I thought was more than reasonable considering that if I were a Bridezilla I would probably sue the place for ruining the best day of my life. To make long story short: I got a reply a week later asking for my phone number to resolve the issue. I gave them my phone number. Two weeks passed... No phone call. I wrote another email to the attention of the manager stating that this is no way to treat their long time costumers. It's been two more weeks. No response. I have since found another Italian bakery in the area that has a fruit cake that is just as nice (if not better). I would never be back to Mozzicato's and I want to make sure that something like this never happens to another bride. So if you're ordering a wedding cake make sure you order...
Read moreFirst I must say my family and I are Modern Pastry customers every year for as long as I can recall I get a white cake with chocolate and strawberry mousse, with quarantine I was disappointed I wasn't going to get my cake until I found out Mozzicato was open so I called 5 days before my birthday to place the same order for a 11am pick up on Thursday April 23 at 1120 my daughter went to pick up my cake wasn't ready she had to wait over 20 mins then she got home we opened the box the cake had shifted and came apart we called they said nothing can be done ok no problem so we fixed it as best as we could, sang hb and when I cut the cake the middle was hard I left it out for 1 hour middle still hard when we tryed it the taste was not good at all. I called and told them first response your the one that called about the cake falling which I told her it didn't fall it shifted and that is not why I'm calling, I told her about how hard the middle was and how it did not taste good at all. I was told a manager would call me back now it's Friday 1128 pm never got a call. I took more than half of the cake to my aunt's house I didn't tell her anything she called me and said that cake is old, hard in the middle and bad taste where did you get it. You need to call them that's a waste of money. That's when I just decided to call Modern pastry to see if they were open for cakes to my surprise they were I told them what happened she felt horrible she said give me 45 mins which we did when we went to pick up the cake she said it's fresh becareful we drove to many places the cake never shifted got home sang hb again and wow the cake was so soft and fresh. I will never ever order a cake or recommend this place. Poor customer service no call back...
Read moreIn the past I had a few orders with Mozzicato Bakery on 329 Franklin Ave Hartford and all cakes were delicious. However, on June 15 2019 I ordered a birthday cake, 25 servings and vanilla flavor. I was so disappointed. I got even more upset when I spoke with the store manager (Gina). 1- the bottom of the cake was soaked in syrup and fell apart. I am not able to cut into pieces nicely. 2-there is a big piece of baking paper left in between two layers. I guess they baked 2 cakes and stacked them but forgot the take out the baking paper 3-there is one hair found in the cake Below is the answer from the store manager, her name is Gina (I think) 1- that is how we make the cake. 2-no explanation 3-it is not hair it is from the brush it ruined my kid's bd. I had no choice but threw the entire cake in the trash. kids don't eat cake that fell apart and wet. I called the store 2 days later June 17. Gina asked me why I didn't bring the cake back. I told her I threw the cake away but I took some photos. I was on vacation one week after our phone conversation so that I could not be able to send the photos right away but 8 days later and requested a fund refund to the original payment type. Gina replied ' We were expecting this as agreed immediately after our communication by phone a few weeks ago'. She thought 8 days later is 'a few weeks ago'. She offered me a $25 gift certificate but that is not what I want. The store (Gina) does not care about the customer satisfaction especially a returning customer like me . I was really shocked how they handled my dissatisfaction. I would never go back to the store and I told all my families and...
