Brenda's Cakes For All Occasions — Restaurant in Harwich

I received a cake from Brenda for a very special occasion, the baby shower of my first born daughter! I did not place the order myself, due to the baby shower being a surprise, but to say the cake was underwhelming would be an understatement. The theme of the shower consisted of “Chanel” decorations, to which the cake was decorated with “Dior”, a simple mistake but after claims of being in business for 34 years that was a simple communication to have with a paying customer before deciding yourself what was appropriate for a theme. The cake itself was a simple sheet cake frosted white on the sides and black on top, which bled into the white buttercream making for a sloppy finish. It was “decorated” with an uneven and quite shaky pink “ribbon” of frosting which again was uneven and looked extremely rushed. It was topped with what was promised to be an edible pink high heel shoe but ended up (last minute) being inedible and filled with another sloppy layer of frosting and a “Dior” cut out piece of paper. This had been my family’s first experience with Brenda and she was very pleasant, despite leaving us to wait 1 hour after pick up time to receive the cake, (to no discount, accommodation, or promise to remedy in the future). Since then, my family still gave Brenda’s Cakes another chance, being that she had been so pleasant to speak to. Another unsatisfied family member with a disappointing display of a cake. After our 2 experiences with this business, at two different dates, and experiences with other cake professionals (with nowhere close to as many years of experience), my family members and I have now inserted our honest reviews on community pages and posts in regards to this particular cake business in which we’ve received nothing but backlash, retaliation and plainly lies. Brenda has claimed to have conversations that never happened to excuse the quality of work, she’s researched customers personal and past history to weaponize against them, she’s refused any type of accountability by putting words in people’s mouths that they “love” her work (which had never been seen before set up at venues due to the box they come in) and has simply harped on and been cruel to a series of paying customers because of their honest reviews of the cakes they’ve received for their events. I’m sure I too will receive some sort of backlash for leaving my honest opinion about the cake I received on my daughters special day, if the post isn’t reported and removed. The presentation was horrible and the taste wasn’t great as her buttercream had an overpowering and intense flavor of food coloring. Service was poor because we had to wait an hour to pick up the cake which delayed a lot of the set up. Before having any opposing thoughts to her beliefs that she’s never had and never should receive an honest review if her service wasn’t satisfactory, her atmosphere is pleasant. This is my second rave review for Brenda! She made a beautiful and delectably delectable cake for my son’s 27th birthday. She asked me about my son and crafted a personal and perfect cake for him. She added some edible $100 bills as a nod to his banking career. My discerning younger son took a piece of the money and exclaimed, “Wow! This is even better than fondant!” He is a huge fondant fan. My family commented about the cake all weekend- how it’s better than any other cake. It is SO moist and stayed that way for the short 48 hours it lasted. We made it our Easter dessert too. I bragged to my friend who lives in NJ about the cake and she told me she ended up having a dream about the cake and how she now can’t stop thinking about this cake. As a surprise, I mailed her a small sliver. It will travel well because it needs no refrigeration. She is going to go out of her mind when it arrives. No other cake will ever measure up to Brenda’s! I can't say enough positive things about Brenda and her delicious desserts and wedding cake. I contacted Brenda two weeks before my wedding to see if she could help with my wedding cake last minute. Not only did Brenda help me with a wedding cake but she supplied my guests the most beautiful and delicious dessert table and even set the entire thing up. Every interactions with Brenda was professional, timely and positive. My guests loved the desserts and my husband and I loved our wedding cake. Brenda was so great to work with and I will do more business with her in the future.
