Rustic Café — Restaurant in Haskell

Okay. We've never had this kind of experience anywhere before, so I’m a little shocked at the experience we had here. We arrived at the rusty cafe around 8:30-45ish, cant recall the exact time. We walk in, waiting to see what it is we need to do because we saw a podium, so I just assumed there would be a greeter there. There was not. There were waiters walking around, saw us, but never said a thing so we sat ourselves. There were 3 other tables there. So the place was pretty empty. Not busy at all. We waited to get waited on, the waiters walked around as if we were invisible. My husband finally gets up to get a menu and asks a guy if he could have one, and the guy seemed confused before giving him one. We finally get waited on. She takes our order and was nice and even stayed to chat for a minute. She said she was working since 9am, which is why I tried to be okay with how long we were waiting cause I know she must’ve been tired. So we waited. 30 minutes pass, we still haven’t had our waiter come check on us, as she was constantly checking on a specific table (we figure she knew them well). We hoped by that time she’d at least come and let us know that she apologizes for the wait and maybe check on our food. But no. We sat there for another 30 minutes or so, still no waitress...still no food. By this time our daughter (5yo) is complaining about her tummy hurting cause she’s hungry. 9:45 rolls around and there’s no one else in the restaurant by that time except for the table the waitress continues to wait on. It was almost as if we were invisible. My husband gets up to ask about the wait. The waitress goes to check, the order somehow never made it to the kitchen. We waisted all that time, for nothing. It would have been COMPLETELY understandable if there were lots of tables. But it was us, and another table. We walked out, we hurried to call sonic to place an order for our daughter since there was no other place opened by that time. I understand that mistakes happen, I understand that the girl worked a little over ten hours, so I don’t feel like she did this on purpose. But we were never checked on within that time, and the service was not so great form the beginning. We’ve heard lots of great things about your food! Hate that our first experience was this way but we are happy...

The chicken fried steak has gotten smaller and fattier. My daughter ordered, and the first bite was a big bite of fat. She would not eat anymore. When asked how things were I said, good for everyone that will eat it. Told wait staff what happened. I did not ask for anything in return. She said she would talk to the manager ( I just heard the other staff tell someone there was no manager there). She came back later, and she said she took 15% off. I said, "Oh, thank you, I was not expecting that." When we checked out I asked for an itemized receipt (I had to explain what that was) when she printed it off she stood right there and tore the bottom off (where the price is). I went to car and added it all up...she did not take 15% off at all and she told me the onion ring extra charge was 50 cents well I knew that would be wrong as well, they were 1.50 more. My point is why lie about things? You will be caught, and you were! I will NOT be going back. I will not support liars! Later that night, all my meal came right back up. Maybe bad milk in the gravy. We visited this convenient little restaurant the other day. It was nice. The fish & fries were pretty good. BEST FRIES EVER! I just wouldn't have minded having a bit more. I was a bit envious of my husband's chef salad. It looked absolutely delicious. (I later returned and ordered a grilled chicken salad for my supper, which was okay, but I'll still be back for that chef's salad) The young lady waiting on folks does pretty good, with all that she has to do working by herself. *Okay, since this first review, we have been back numerously since just moving to the area. Gone now. The waitress we had this evening was superb! Her name is Sami. Awesome gal. Mariah is really good, too. The food we ordered has been delicious. 😋 For me: A chef's salad, & for my husband: he ordered a BLT with fries. Compliments to the chef/cook!
