Strick's Bar-B-Q & Catering — Restaurant in Hattiesburg

Went by to pay for a Christmas order, placed in store two days previous. I waited patiently for 20 minutes for the young lady to look for the order. Older short bald man comes out to say that no order was placed because it was not paid for. I told him the young lady was looking for the order and to give her a few more minutes, because I was there to pay. In the mean time I walk over to the second register to wait. The older man and the new employee (who took the order) find the order by the 2nd register. He then turns to the employee and tells her this is not where the orders belong. He rudely turns to me with attitude like I did something wrong and says “do you want the order or not.” I respond with “I’m just trying to pay for the order.” He then goes on “we’re not going to go back and forth. Do you want the order or not.” I did pay because it was food for Christmas dinner. Walked out the door, turned around went back in and got a refund. I will not do business with people who treat customers like this. The young ladies were ok but the older bald man was rude, unprofessional, and gave racist vibes. No accountability for their mistake. We went there around 6:30pm on November 7. The place was empty. We waited for for almost five minutes to order because the girl at the register was wrapped up in a customer order. Other people saw us standing there and did nothing for a long time. The girl (Marissa) that did help us seemed annoyed that we were there and was very curt. Asked about the swamp nachos and her response was "people seem to like it". The food took over 20 minutes to come out, which for bar-b-que is a long time (in my opinion). Finally the food that did come was dry and nothing special. I will say the baked beans and fried okra were good. The cornbread was dry and flavorless. The group had different things and everyone was not satisfied. We had brisket, ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken. The final thing were the swamp nachos and they were awful. We went there on a recommendation from someone who lived in Hattisburg years ago. I appears to have changed since. Hate to see a place that has been a part of a community for a long time not live...

Read the reviews and I saw they were mixed, so I wanted to try it myself. We had the 3 meat platter choosing ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, along with 2 sides and drinks. We ordered immediately and the food arrived within a few minutes. I love barbecue, and Stricks did not disappoint. The ribs were tender but not overcooked, very flavorful and didn't require sauce, though I did try some. The brisket was also very flavorful, with just enough fat to add some flavor, it had obviously been trimmed correctly. Melted in your mouth. The pulled pork was also very good, tender yet firm, not soupy or greasy like you often find. We tried the strawberry lemonade, but it was very sweet, our only miss of the meal. Sauces were good, but I didn't use much as it really wasn't needed. Will definitely give it another visit in the future as the meal was $30.00 total before tip.
