Hattiesburg, Mississippi is known as the home of Southern Miss University and if you visit here for college- related purposes or if you happen to be a student, you will need to take time out for food and drink. If you like a restaurant without any surprises and that caters to the sports lover in most of us, a good choice is Mugshots.
Large in size, Mugshots is an American bar and grill serving assorted burgers, salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, hot dogs, and the like. The food is mostly the standard pub fare and most anyone with American blood running through their veins will find something the like. They have a full bar and a respectable beer selection, too.
Mugshots features tables and booths for seating, plus bar seating. The layout is one large room, and it can get rather noisy when filled up. You are within view of a large or small screen television pretty much anyplace you choose to sit, so it’s a good choice when you want to kick back with an all- American meal, your favorite beer or cocktail, and take in the latest sports matchup.
Most of the burgers and sandwiches are served with beer battered fries and several of the burgers/sandwiches are quite large. If you’re exceptionally hungry or plan to stay for a while, I recommend either queso or pickle chips as your before meal appetizer. Then, for the main course, I like the patty melt or one of the different Philly cheesesteaks. Washed down with your favorite beer, you are certain to leave feeling full. No matter which food you choose, you should find it agreeable and satisfying.
College towns always have a good number of restaurants. Mugshots is a good choice when you want to watch televised sports, munch on bar food, and sip on a drink or two. The food isn’t extraordinary, but it is good and combined with the sports- centric atmosphere, Mugshots is a good place for a hearty...
Read moreOnly restaurant I’ve been to where I felt genuinely disgusting afterwards to a point where I washed out my mouth when home.
Service was decently slow which I can understand if they are understaffed or busy so not an issue for me. However, the food tasted like it was reheated after sitting out for a week, extremely oily (and Im fine with greasy) to where it felt like everything was sitting out in cold, dirty, old oil on your plate.
I like these types of restaurants and have been to numerous and liked them before moving to Hattiesburg, but this was absolutely foul. Genuinely surprised at the decent ratings here, went in optimistic, but by the end the my whole group was disgusted and felt sick with almost every food item and appetizer we got.
Image attached for the worst offender of our table got. Stale 4-5 inches of bread, bland and dry, yet still having a cold oil tasting Mac and cheese on the “burger”, tiny and honestly foul tasting patty. Person who ordered it likes these types of things but had the same feelings as me, my food I was at least able to get down, although not great. Their appetizers especially their fried pickles almost made me throw up (and again I love pickles and fried pickles), it’s just the constant taste of being saturated in cold, dirty, old oil on...
Read moreWe just moved here maybe 2 months ago. Mugshots seemed like it would be a really cool spot to go after church, or when family came to visit. We gave it 2 tries. First time it took a good 10 mins for them to clean a table for us (4 and a highchair) all the while people kept walking in and being seated. The menu looked great though so we were hopeful still. We ordered chicken tenders and mac and cheese for the kids, I got the 1000 island burger and my husband got the philly chicken. The kids food seemed fine. But the burger and chicken was extremely dry. And on top of it service is mediocre. I will say that the French fries are delicious if that's enough for you lol. Fast forward, we went back in Hope's that the service and food was just off that day. Service was fine, not great. I had the mushroom burger, my husband had the hot wangs, my burger was fine, again, dry and by no means hot. Husbands wings were awful. They did smell amazing though, but something was off with the way they were cooked. They were chewy and honestly looked awful. I dont think well be back for meals. Maybe to sit at the bar and have a beer would be cool but It's too expensive to not have great service...
