Located in the heart of West Hattiesburg, The Art of Roux offers a warm, homestyle atmosphere that feels like a true taste of the Bayou. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, the restaurant’s inviting, down-to-earth ambiance makes it easy to feel right at home.
During my visit, I had the Surf and Turf Po’boy, which was absolutely amazing. The shrimp were perfectly cooked—juicy, crispy, and full of flavor—while the debris was melt-in-your-mouth tender, offering a rich, savory taste that was simply unforgettable. Every bite was a perfect combination of textures and flavors.
I also tried the oyster plate, featuring deep-fried oysters cooked to absolute perfection. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning to enhance their natural flavor.
The Art of Roux is a true gem that captures the heart and soul of Southern cooking. From the homestyle atmosphere to the outstanding food, it’s a place that offers comfort and quality with every dish. Whether you’re craving classic Southern comfort food or looking to try something new, this spot is a must-visit in...
Read moreThe red beans and rice were great but like most of the food it is hella overpriced to the point it is almost criminal. 12 dollar for one of the cheapest meals to prepare is ridiculous. We eat this when we have no money and need a good meal to feed the entire family for cheap. Now it is apparently gourmet. Then 9 dollars for a kids grill cheese that looked like cardboard and 14 dollars for a hot ham and cheese that look just as bad. It could have been worse I suppose. It could have been 20 dollars for red beans and rice so I will count my blessings.
8/21/2025 Response to the owner: Instead of being mouthy and combative use all that energy to improve your menu items and pricing. Yes the red beans were good but that was the only compliment you got. I saw nothing indicating your portion sizes. Your food is over priced and the food we had outside of the red beans was trash Period. I gave my personal opinion. If that hurts your feelings or ego then you are in the wrong profession. Might I suggest a helmet when reading the opinions of others 😄. Hell I will come there personally and tell you I wrote the review, just like I have done to a few other establishments who thought I was “hiding behind a profile” 😂😂😂. Play with someone...
Read moreI recently visited Art of Roux and had a fantastic experience. I ordered the chicken platter with a sweet tea, French bread, and a cup of gumbo. The chicken was cooked perfectly and super juicy. It came with a side and I choose the gumbo. The gumbo had sausage and chicken in it and was perfect to dip the French bread in and eat with. It had a good balance of flavors and textures, and was a real treat. The sweet tea was also perfect - not too sweet and very refreshing.
The service at Art of Roux was great as well, with friendly staff who were always willing to help out. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant added to the overall experience, making it a great spot for a meal with friends or family.
Overall, I would highly recommend Art of Roux to anyone looking for a delicious Southern cuisine experience with great service and a cozy atmosphere. The food is top-notch, and the value for money is excellent. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and give it a try - you won't be...
