Just left with my family from this restaurant with the worst experience I've ever had dining out. They served us old chicken, old rice, everything had no flavor and it was honestly disgusting. I asked for more sauce for my BBQ chicken and they brought a spicy sauce that tasted like old onion sauce and when I said it wasn't the right sauce they said that's all they had... Okay. So I asked the waitress (who looked miserable, I don't blame her) if we'd be able to get a discount since we didn't want to eat our food- when I asked this, the cook in the back (old Korean woman) glared at me. So I went to sit down and the owner (she said she was the owner) came to our table SO aggressively and attacked us, saying she was going to call the police if we didn't pay. The fact that she assumed we wouldn't pay was crazy. And when I tried to explain that our chicken tasted old, she started screaming at us saying that everything was fresh but it was obvious that the chicken was old and the rice was too. My mom, who is from Japan, even mentioned the rice was old because it tasted old and had a strange color. The "owner" continued to scream at us, including other tables in the discussion (the other table looked very uncomfortable) until we paid for the food and left. This is a good lesson for us to never come to extremely slow restaurants because they end up cooking food in the morning and microwaving it in the afternoon. I'm just hoping we don't get sick from the few bites that we took. I've worked in restaurants all my life and have NEVER been treated this horribly by anyone. Do not come here unless you want food poisoning or to be insulted and berated if you don't...
Read moreCham Cham Korean Barbecue is one of the finest Korean dining establishments in Hilo, Hawaii. Rating: *
The pork (돼지 고기) and beef (쇠고기), as well as all other entrees I have had so far, are of the highest quality and mirror dishes found in restaurants in Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju. 음식은 맛있습니다. They also have great tasting bento boxes loaded with meat and vegetables for under $6.99 available for lunch, which make great picnic and hiking meals.
The owners and staff are extremely kind and polite. There has not been one moment where my glass was empty or I was not attended to immediately. [As other reviewers have stated, the service is outstanding if not phenomenal].
I am currently learning Korean and the hostess/waiter, as well as the owner, kindly answered all questions I had and was even willing to correct my pronunciation on certain conversational vocabulary.
In regard to the restaurant itself, the interior is modestly decorated and has a warm and comforting ambiance that mirrors a mother's kitchen with a hint of the charm of rural Korea.
For those that like Korean cuisine and are visiting or live in Hilo, Cham Cham Korean BBQ is an excellent and friendly dining experience at an...
Read moreWe were in the area and craving some Korean BBQ. It's been a few years since we've been here but we're so glad we popped in. Our waitress Taylor promptly greeted us and brought us menus and water.
We ordered a Meat Jun & BBQ Chicken plate and a Kalbi & BBQ Chicken plate. After placing our order, Taylor bought out our veggies. The veggies were so tasty. We actually finished most of the veggies before our plates arrived.
When our order arrived, our waitress realized that my wife's plate was wrong. Instead of Meat Jun they gave Chicken Katsu. It's a good thing my wife likes Chicken Katsu too. Since the kitchen made the mistake, my wife got to keep the Katsu and they brought out her Meat Jun within 5 minutes. My wife was thrilled since she got to take home leftovers.
All the meats were cooked to perfection. And honestly, the best we've had in Hilo. The mandoo sauce was so delicious too! I finished up our meal with some soothing Lavender tea. We left the restaurant very satisfied and vowed to return again.
Great eats complimented with...
