We stayed here on an overnight visit from Kona for its location and proximity to our waterfall tour at Umauma and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. What a charming and lovely boutique hotel. We are a mother and teen son and this hotel perfectly fit our needs. It is a vintage (older) hotel that has been redone very well/tastefully. In many ways it reminded me of an older beach hotel you would find at the NJ/DE/MD beaches. The hotel faces the water and has an open air lobby with comfortable seating, a water filling station, coffee service and small gift and sundries shop with many local and sustainable items. We arrived just before 3 and were told our room would be ready in about 20 minutes. We parked the car and sat in the very comfortable lobby enjoying the koi pond and water views. When we got to our room I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and well appointed it was. Beds were comfortable (my son felt a little on the soft side though). Bathroom was very clean and you can tell a lot of time and effort has gone into getting and keeping the grout clean. Especially in such a moist environment. There is an overhead light, a large ceiling fan. The desk and nightstand had lamps with usb ports for charging devices and there was a power strip under the nightstand too so plenty of space to charge all the things that come with having a teen boy! There is a small fridge, hairdryer and iron/iron board in room (behind the closet “door”). The bathroom is clean but there is no fan so it gets warm and humid in there, especially when showering. There are large pump bottles of hand soap and lotion next to the sink and shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. I didn’t recognize the brand but it smelled good! There is a small window a/c unit which we used when we went to sleep. Definitely makes the room cool. I read other reviews talking about the noise from the a/c but we usually sleep with fans/white noise so didn’t mind. We were offered a kombucha welcome drink but did not take advantage of it mainly due to time. When we checked in we were told about the various charities and good works supported by the hotel which was also nice. Overall this was a charming hotel and if anything I wish we would have stayed another night to take advantage of the SUP at the park/water across the street. The only downside or change I would recommend to the hotel is the addition of bars or chains on the guest room doors for just an added level of security. I did not feel unsafe at all, but would have liked another way to ensure we were locked in...

I want to start by saying yes, I asked everyone their names because they were just that awesome. It all started with my check-in. I arrived early and was greeted by Erica and Ivonne, the friendliest faces to see upon arrival. I had some issues with my reservation since I booked through a third party, and they were right on it. They called multiple customer service agents and got everything sorted out. I later found out that Erica is the Assistant General Manager, which I thought was amazing because she was right there at the front helping guests alongside her team. That alone shows what kind of leadership and aloha this hotel has. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Erica owned the place with how much care and professionalism she brings. Ivonne helped get everything squared away, showed me around the amenities like the bikes and paddle boards, and even led me to the comfiest lounge to relax in while I waited for my room. She’s hilarious, caring, and just the perfect person to be greeted by. Her football knowledge is crazy; seriously, she’s an absolute hoot to talk to! Paleka and Ili helped me with my room keys and suggested I visit the volcano to see the live eruption. They also gave me an amazing mochi recommendation at Two Ladies Kitchen (10/10 worth it!). Ili is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and Paleka, a true local, shared so much great knowledge about the island. I actually went to see the eruption, and it was absolutely breathtaking, something I’ll never forget. When I came back late, I was welcomed by Amanda and Quinn, the late night front desk crew. They helped me find a spot still open to eat at Hilo Burger Joint and were just full of good vibes and aloha energy. I absolutely adore the simplicity of this hotel. It feels like a home away from home. At check out, I was helped by Sonia, Sadee, and Ivonne again, who asked if there was anything they could have done to make my stay better. Let me tell you, absolutely nothing! If you’re looking for a local, simple, good-vibes, and full of aloha stay in Hilo, this is the...
Read moreI absolutely loved the environmentally friendly atmosphere of this hotel. The room was clean, the view of the koi pond and water beyond was gorgeous and so nice to have - I would recommend a room with this view!||Having a water jar to refill in the lobby and included coffee and tea at all times seems like such small things, but both were very welcome.||With the hotel being environmentally friendly, it is important for some guests to note that the showers have manual vents, and the shades in the rooms are a similar style. The tvs/technology are not super up to date, but this did not bother us as we were on a trip to be with each other and enjoy the city. ||The staff was all very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with our key cards working when we checked in, and the issue was resolved very quickly.||The lobby and common areas were breezeway in construction and added to the Hawaiian aesthetic. I really liked how in the common areas, there were chairs and seating areas that felt like they made sense and were welcoming. Not just there for looks. There were games and activities available as well in these spaces. Everything was decorated well and clean. The giftshop was also so cute and full of unique souvenirs. ||The pool area was also clean and the noise from this area never bothered us. ||There were bikes and paddleboards that could be used. No extra charge! Using the paddleboards was a highlight for us and there is a water area to swim in right outside across the street from the hotel entrance. ||As a runner, the gym was very modern and clean, but did not have a treadmill. There were bikes, weights, and mats to use. I would say this gym would be great for those doing biking, light weight lifting, and stretching. I did run in the surrounding areas (there is a nearby park) and this was very safe and easy to access!||It is important to note that the hotel is not really a walking distance from many things. I would recommend having a rental car if you are going to stay here. ||We would certainly love to come and...
