After our two week stay on the Big Island, this was by far the worst quality restaurant food we experienced. We were SO excited to try this new restaurant, and saved it for our last evening of our stay on the Big Island. I will even go as far for say this was by FAR the worst fine dining experience of my life, and absolutely felt like price gauging and a complete lie.
I understand this is new restaurant but WOW, who exactly are you trying to tailor this food to? The non-foody American consumer? If so, you hit the nail on the head. But if you're trying to keep up with somewhere like Merrimans (who uses top notch LOCAL ingredients) you have a LONG way to go. Absolutely not worth the whopping $400 meal for two people.
Positives: Sexy ambience. Friendly staff. 5/5
Critiques/Room for improvement/please consider the following-
As my partner stated, "This cowboy restaurant is all hat and no cattle."
By far, the best item we had was the Cesar Salad, which most likely from actual natural and fresh ingredients on the Island. Unfortunately, the Cesar salad, just like ALL the other items we ordered , were impregnated in sauces.
Cesar salad: the Cesar salad stole the show. Fun side table creation of the salad and server Prince was great to chat with! Drenched in dressing, however. 4/5
Lobster Louie: This was a travesty. I have no idea why this was recommended and why there are so many reviews raving about this item. It was essentially deep friend lobster pieces (similar to popcorn shrimp.) the lobster was overcooked. And the sauce literally tastes like "thousand Island sauce." Filled non-lobster pieces of god-knows what filled the lobster shell tail for presentation. This was priced at $65, which was an absolute heist! 0/5
Dover sole: this was absolutely false advertising and the most expensive and totally not worth it fish of our lives. Apparently this was supposedly prepared table side. Well, the fish came already cooked, and the server only just deboned it. He added a few ingredients to a sauce pan to make a sauce, and again, the fish was DRENCHED in oil and sauce. We don't even know what the fish tasted like !! I love fish, and could not stand more than one bite of this as it was mostly sauce (see photos). Sadly, we do not think that fish was even local!! How can you serve non-local fish in Hawaii?? 1/5
8 oz filet: medium cooked, the meat itself was decent, but again, the plate was drenched in what seemed like a cheap bbq sauce. We then found out the steak was brought in from Chicago!!!!! Eating steak from Chicago on the Big Island?? The waiter also stated that the cow was GRAIN fed, and not grass fed !!!! Give me a break. Horrific. For those who may be unaware, grain fed cows are concentrated and it increases the concentration of manure, nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, which is a highly inflammatory food! Grass fed meat is anti-inflammatory, which is MUCH better for you and tastes better too! 2/5
There is no way in hell any consumer with any sense of taste will come back here a second time if they had the experience we had. Four Seasons other restaurants Ulu Ocean Grill and Beach House are phenomenal. This new restaurant fails on multiple levels, much...
Read moreThis was by far one of the worst meals we have ever had. We ordered a variety of items, all which were extremely overpriced and just not good at all. We ordered apps, salads, cocktails, main entrees and sides. For $100+ per meal, I would expect WAY more. Everything was over sauced to the point you couldn't even taste the meat or fish. I had the tableside dover sole which looked great when they first brought it out, but by the time they were finished de-boning and saucing it, it was a plate of pure mush! My sister's filet had so much brown gravy sauce on it, it was hard to tell what she was even eating. My brother's strip steak was most definitely rancid. Then when questioned about it, we were told that we must not be familiar with dry aged beef. Are you kidding me?! We are a family of cattle ranchers and this was not only insulting but just a ridiculous comment to make to someone who is eating at a restaurant of this $$$$. My nephews both ordered filets with a couple of sides. The steaks came, but the $40 worth of sides never did. When they asked the waiter about them, the manager came over and said he would get them right out, but they never came & he never came back. They both had steak for dinner with no sides and no apology. Honestly the kids meals were the best thing on the menu, but for $40 the portion size was so tiny! Llet's just say everyone left hungry and very underwhelmed...BIG TIME!! I would avoid this restaurant when visiting the Big Island. There are way better places to spend your...
Read moreSeriously, do NOT eat here! My husband and I got horrible food poisoning from our meal here!! That should be enough to make you stay clear, but in case it’s not: the dining experience- absent of the later arriving sickness - was just downright bad. Our waiter was condescending, made us extremely uncomfortable every time he came to our table with his strange attitude, and spoke ad nauseam about every single item on the menu completely unprompted. We weren’t guests at the hotel, and every single staff member at the restaurant made a point to go out of their way to mention this, in addition to giving us literally the worst table in the restaurant. Lastly, while it’s normal to expect extremely inflated prices at a Four Seasons steak house, you’re also expecting quality to match, and that just wasn’t there. The food was mid-tier at best. If I’m paying $400 for a meal for two (only two alcoholic beverages included), I am expecting something pretty great and this fell SO incredibly short. All around, this was the absolute most disappointing dining experience ever....
