Simple menu. Quick service. Staff are friendly and were very efficient in putting out extremely fresh ingredients and some tasty food options!
Avocado is available as a protein option for people who don’t want meat/fish. They offer it with or without a lightly fried batter.
Solely as a personal preference, it’s my opinion that they cut the avocado chunk way too large to let it’s flavors meld with the other toppings / sauces on the plate.
The chunk of avocado was so generous in size almost to a point of being disproportionate to the corn tortilla. Often leaving me with a mouth -full of plain avocado more than I prefer while eating a street-sized taco. I will say that the avocado chunks I received were both fresh and perfectly ripe.
On our second visit I was going to go for a plain cheese quesadilla but at the last minute added avocado and it was unfortunately not appetizing or quesadilla-like. It more resembled a burrito pressed on a grill with the huge avocado chunk causing the tortilla to turn to mush a bit. Not thinking I needed to specify that I wanted it flat like a quesadilla with any other filling (onions, peppers, etc.) would turn out like so it could be my bad for this one. I took the L on that one, sometimes you just pick the wrong thing!
The crisp and light batter on the quickly-fried avocados is great, but it didn’t feel like enough to keep your fried piece of avocado crunchy. I’m an avocado lover despite having unusual personal aversions to rando food textures so this may very well be irrelevant to you, just my own take.
My husband got the shrimp tacos on our first visit and fried fish tacos a few days later. He enjoyed both and they looked very good too.
We didn’t have any issues finding seating. It appeared to be family friendly but I wish the food truck area as a whole would prohibit kids (or anyone) from scaring, chasing and cornering the chickens for some weirdo entertainment. Not even the outside cats do that to those...
Read moreRoaming Kahuku/North Shore area, there are plenty of yummy places to eat, unless it's late. Most of the excellent places close about 2pm after the tourists come though and head back to Honolulu.
We're in the area, so I come later sometimes to grab something late. Today my mood was fish, and that leaves little choice. So fish tacos it was. I was excited nonetheless.
Queried about what the fresh catch was and became totally excited when they said Ono!! That's my fav!
Service was quick as the called my name it seemed not even 5 minutes after ordering. The tacos looked good enough.
First bite, fish was very rough. . . Over cooked. Hummm. Maybe it's the first bite. Second bite, deeper in what was an ample fish piece, same, very tough, even chewy consistency. Uggh. Well, at this point I'm totally disappointed, but still hungry, no real choice left, time to power through.
I basically pivoted and just engulfed the tacos not for pleasure, but to fill my body. Not the night out I envisioned (I literally stepped away from a larger family get together of spaghetti and rice I wasn't feeling).
What a total disappointment. I think I'll stick with tacos on the mainland.
This taco truck doesn't foot the bill of the traditional taco trucks I'm used to.
My final question, would I go back? Nope, not even a second thought. Avoid this spot considering all the yummy places available in...

I always get the fish tacos because they are too delicious not to, with the juicy fresh fish and creamy avocado sauce. I also enjoy the carnitas tacos for their rich flavor and texture, and the avocado tacos for a tasty meatless alternative. Whenever there is a special, I always try it out and have never been disappointed. From nopales to lamb, you can always trust Alex to treat you with the best flavors.
