Restaurant Review: A Hidden Gem for BBQ Lovers
Don’t let the roadside location and no-frills setup fool you—this spot serves up some of the best barbecue on the island. The chicken is outstanding, packed with smoky flavor and cooked to perfection. But it doesn’t stop there—the pulled pork, brisket, and ribs are just as impressive. The barbecue sauce complements the meats beautifully, and even the sides shine. The mac and cheese was a pleasant surprise, rich and creamy, while the corn had a depth of flavor you wouldn’t expect from a simple side.
We also picked up a Sovereign dry-fit t-shirt, a purchase I’ll wear with pride. Just a heads-up: they don’t do substitutions, so if you want to try the mac and cheese, order it on the side. The combination plate was more than enough for my wife, daughter, and me.
This is an absolute must-stop if you’re in the area—but go early. They sell out fast, and when they’re out, that’s it for the day. We made the mistake of coming back the next day only to find they had already closed up, leaving us disappointed that we couldn’t enjoy it one last time before heading back to the mainland.
If I had one small suggestion, it would be an elevated, covered platform for the picnic tables to take advantage of the ocean views. Then again, maybe it’s best they don’t—because if word gets out any more, the lines will be even longer, and they’ll sell out...
Read moreI am a huge foodie and I try to stop at any place that seems to be a local favorite. This spot is open every Thursday and Friday with every other Wednesday open as well. The food is AMAZING. Can't miss the spot, just look out for the cars parked in the lot right off the street with the big bus and smoke! I ordered the super combo with a bit of everything. The chicken was smoky and still very juicy. The brisket was slightly over with some dried bits but the flavor is killer. It has a softer bite with no crust but still full of smoke flavor. The ribs were perfect tender to the bite with some resistance to come off the bone. Exactly how I like ribs. The mac and cheese was the best mac and cheese I've had in a long time. Truly cheesy with bits of chicken scattered about and smoke infused. Just beware since they use real pieces of chicken one of my friends had a little bone in the mac. I nearly went back to buy a whole tub of the mac and cheese. When I was pumping out some of the BBQ sauce I was kind of bummed out because it looked like ketchup but after trying it, I was sorry to have judged. It was perfectly tangy and sweet with just a hint of savory. It contrasted the overall BBQ great and helped to balance the flavor. The parking lot was full but we were able to squeeze in a spot and actually grab a seat at the table where we...
Read moreI'm a bit of a harsh critic when it comes to food. We were told. Come here! It's amazing! You need to eat this chicken! Sooooooo......we drove 52 min to try this out of this world food.
It was a bit of a let down. Now..... if you are within 20in of here it could be worth eating. But I was disappointed. The ribs were the worst thing there. Under cooked, under-whelming, chewy. Not even the boys ate these. The chicken was fine. It wasn't so ... I meet this in my life chicken..... it was just chicken.
Here's what we had.... Several combo plates Mac and cheese Cornbread Banana bread Freah sqeezed juice
Here's what I'd say you should get. A combo plate with chicken and Brisket (but the Brisket was also not consistent) Get a side of mac and cheese Fresh sqeezed juice and cornbread.
The rice was not worth eating, the corn is a no for sure. I wish they charged more to swap their corn (just canned) for the Mac and cheese. If they have the lilikoi cheese cake get it.
So there ya have it. Everyone working there is super nice and...
