I feel kind of conflicted writing this because if you had asked me to rate Vibe last year, it would have been an easy 5+ stars (I liked it so much I remembered it for the next trip). While the servers are kind and the decorations are so cute and stylish, I probably won't be back. The food is delicious, but the portions are so, so small. I just can't justify the price (even though all the food around the island is more expensive than last year). I got the acai bowl expecting a meal size portion and got a bowl that was 1/2 an inch deep. It felt like a snack/ small treat even though it was almost $15 (I added honey for $1). I wish they would make the bowl a little more expensive and fix the portions because as it stands, a reasonable person would need at least 2 bowls for a meal, which puts the price at around $30... I'm genuinely confused about how the portion is half of what it was last year (see photos for reference). I went to other places around the island for acai, so I knew the price probably would be 2 to 3 dollars higher than last year, but the shrinkflation that occurred genuinely had me in shock. Edit: While I appreciate the response from the owner, the bowl size is not wider it's actually less wide (I wish I had taken a picture using a hand to show this). I'm pretty sure the bowl was compostable before as well? I'm 99% sure I eat the same amount of food as before, so the portion is definitely not the same. It was interesting to learn about the acai change, but honestly, it tasted the same to me.

Totally struck out here! When planning my visit to Hawaii I flagged Vibe Cafe as a spot to visit to try their vegan loco moco. When we arrived for dinner the first night we saw they are sold out of a bunch of items! Including their loco moco - we didn't return the next morning because of this. They are apparently working on changing their menu items in the very near future. The menu online is not updated but the online ordering one is. Unfortunately everything we had our eyes (and stomachs) set on was on the sold out list. I ended up deciding on the strawberry seitan gorgonzola salad which despite not being sold out they were out of seitan! So again I settled on the beet poke bowl to try something unique and different. Some flavors I liked, some I didn't like, so it made a meh meal for my taste buds. My husband got the Big Nasty - it came with a side of potato chips, not enough bbq sauce (no worries, they gave us extra), and very strange faux bacon that felt filmy and I couldn't bite through it when I tried a bit. Our friend got the jackfruit nachos - loaded plate, he wasn't too impressed overall but the cashew queso is on point. Clean place with a hipster vibe, wasn't busy when we arrived, service was nice and relatively quick with the food. Would love to visit again after they get their menu transition sorted out.

EDIT Nov 2023: I hadn't been here in a year and things changed a lot. The prices went up and the portion sizes went down. They also crossed out many ingredients from the menu items, making them less interesting and yet more expensive. I'm sad to have spent $45 for two burgers (no drinks) and still be hungry... They were tiny! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be coming back very often anymore. Original review (summer 2022): Love this place, the vibe, the food and the drinks. It's a little bit on the expensive side for similar restaurants in Hilo, though. For that I take off half a star. They also accept laptops but only for a max of an hour, which doesn't make it a good place for remote work. That's a shame and what makes me remove the other half star. Today I had the Philly cheese steak, which was way too dry in my opinion (as of Aug. 2022) - especially for a Philly which is generally very juicy. I would not recommend this item. I also had a cacao elixir (aka hot chocolate) and that was very good - I would recommend.

This place is DIRTY, definitely not going back after this experience. First when we walked in, I was looking for a clean table to sit. There were plenty of empty tables, all of them were dirty; however, we sat down. A few minutes later a waitress came over and I asked if she could clean the table that was visibly dirty with crumbs, water rings, and sauce spots. She came back with a dirty looking rag, no spray bottle or anything and she just smeared it all over and she took our order. Then she went behind the counter, pulled out her phone for a minute, then put it back in her pocket and went straight to grab a blender. The she went into the freezer and started putting what looks like mango chunks into the blender with her bare hand (keep in mind these are the same hands touching the dirty rag and table and clicking on her phone) There were four of us and our food came out all at different times. My kid's sandwich was so burned on the sides I had to cut off all the crust. My toast was cold and soggy, as if it had been sitting somewhere for a while. The whole time we were there I did not see one staff member wash their hands. One of the staff members walked in from outside with what looked like boxes from Costco, she put the boxes on the counter and went straight to making some sort of a drink (without washing her hands of course) I was so disgusted with this place, not to mention the wait staff doesn't have the minimal customer service skills. Being nice, upbeat, positive, and smiley, and doing the job right is what gets you tips. Definitely...

So bummed :( my sister and I visited for the second time today (Monday Aug 22) and it went very sideways. I got my food and drink first. We waited the length of time it took me to eat my food and my sister's still hadn't come, nor had anyone come to check on us. We flagged down a staff member who told us the back of house person was just putting the toppings on her breakfast toast. We waited another chunk of time, long enough for me to go to the bathroom, check out the things that were for sale from vendors, and come back and have a little more convo with my sister. Still nothing. Eventually we just had to get it to-go. Again, no one had checked in so I approached a woman who anticipated my question and said "you want it to go?". About a minute later she came out with it and apologized. Shortly after that our server approached to give us the bill. I let the woman know what had happened and it seemed like maybe she didn't feel like she could do do anything to amend it. So i insisted on paying for my sister's food. She ate it in the car. I left a small tip but I felt weird paying for something we didn't get to enjoy. As someone who has spent a decade in the restaurant industry (front of house) I struggle to imagine a situation where I'd feel comfortable being so dismissive to another human. Maybe it was a bad day for them, and I hope this...
