I had high hopes for this place. I've heard great stories but unfortunately was let down. I'm here on vacation and have real felt the "Aloha Spirit" everywhere I've been so far. But the gal working the front counter really put a damper on things. Doughnuts looked cute, tasted stale & the turnovers were okay. As soon as I walked in I Greeted her with a smile and a "Goodmorning", the gal behind the counter responded with a curt smile and looked as though saying GoodMorning back was gonna kill her. I ordered a coffee which they have to make at the other end of the store.. here where it gets interetesting... I take my seat to wait for my coffee.. at this time no one was in the store. 6 minutes later a customer walks in.. Gal behind the counter helps them, then more people walk in and she helps all 8. By this time 20 minutes pass and no coffee. Soooo, I politely get up to ask about it, (just in case she forgot) && LET ME TELL YOU... this girl was just not having it.. she literally scoffed and rolled her eyes.. walked her petty self over to the counter made my drink, called my number and walked off. No "I'm sorry" or "thank you for patience". If you cant deliver customer service then maybe find something else cause you honey need to do better. Doesn't take...
Read moreThe breakfast sandwich was pretty delicious and worth trying if you are in the area. The secret sauce seems to have a bit of a horseradish kick though so beware if you don't like that taste (my friend did not). Unfortunately, the service was a bit lacking here. My drink order was not correct and I noticed that seemed to be a theme as I was not the only one who got something other than they ordered. I didn't ask for my receipt, however, so I wasn't able to check that it was put in correctly when I ordered it. Because of this I didn't expect them to correct it and drank what I got anyway but disappointing it seemed to be a theme.
I will also say the plastic silverware they provide to try to eat the massive breakfast sandwich was almost useless. The fork would bend completely in half which made it very difficult to eat.
Again, sandwich was great with the popover and worth trying if you are staying close by but just have some patience for time it takes and that you might not get the right...
Read moreI ordered a donut, and a bear claw. Their donuts have a texture more like bread or a bagel than either a good cake donut, and are nowhere near light and airy enough to be a good yeast donut. It was…well, not good.
And have you ever had a bear claw with raisins in it? Me neither. That was an unpleasant surprise- I love almond filling, which this bear claw was short on, and hate raisins in baked goods, which it was loaded with. Ugh. Worse bear claw ever.
I’ve had a “chunky chip” cookie from them, too. The absence of the word “chocolate “ in the name should have told me something; it was brown and a little chocolatey, but with a texture that was kind of dry, grainy and cake-like. It wasn’t horrible but I wouldn’t get one again.
There’s not many wonderful choices for fresh baked goods in East Hawaii, and those there are, are pretty expensive. Next time I get a craving though for something fresh from a bakery, I’ll go somewhere else and save myself the calories for something...
