Carlos Bagel Shop — Restaurant in Hawthorne

Opened in 2022 and located on Lafayette Avenue, I had the honor to attend Session 3 of a special Elite pop-up joining forces with Steph's Macarons at Carlos Bagel Shop thanks to Sara and the Yelp team.

Upon entering this bright, spacious, and clean interior, my partner and I were greeted by a packed house with the locals. However, one knows that we came to the right place when its two LED-lit-up signs on the walls, “baked with love,” flashed before our eyes.

I found my way to the other side, where Juliana (the owner’s daughter) assisted me and handed me a beautiful box containing the Crème Brûlée Bagel. The bagel was light, airy, not doughy, and tasted on point with the nice burnt sugar.

Returning back, I was greeted by Steph, the owner of Steph’s Macaron, who offered me mini Crème Brûlée Macaron and Strawberry Shortcake Macaron.

The macarons (pronounced "ma-ka-rooms) are thin, flavorful meringue cookies that are sandwiched together with some kind of filling. The meringues are what make these unique. The macarons were crisp on the outside, yet light and chewy on the inside.

This family owned bagel shop located in the heart of Hawthorne is truly a gem. It all started with an Iced coffee; tired of the same dunkin & starbucks routine I decided to give Carlo's a try and I am so glad I did! Fresh & flavorful, its truly the best cup of coffee around.

Of course with any good cup of joe, a good bagel has to be paired to really live the New Jersey lifestyle, and let me tell you, whoever is rolling bagels here deserves an award. They are crisp with a shiny crust and have that perfectly dense & fluffy inside. Try the blueberry bagel!

If bagels arent your thing (god help you) there is no short supply of sandwich options each with a different spin. my recommendation is the Lafayette or the Julianna.

Finally, the staff. What a cool group of people! everyone there is always smiling and eager to share there love of bagels with the people of Hawthorne!

The vibe is on point if your into that sort of thing; After being newly renovated, its a great spot to kickback and hangout for a bit or get some work done in one of their comfy booths.

Be sure to stop at Carlos Bagel shop for the most delicious bagels and breakfast sandwiches.

They have many different bagels to choose from as well as cream cheese flavors. I ordered a vday colored bagel with scallion cream cheese and a bacon egg and cheese on a garlic bagel. They were both so delicious! I’m still dreaming about that garlic bagel.

You also have to stop at their juice bar and order a delicious all natural juice drink or smoothie. I ordered the celery, green apple, ginger and lemon one.

Lastly the staff here make sure you are happy by going above and beyond. Because of all of the above, I cannot wait to come back!

Update: I love coming to Carlos bagel shop! The food here is always amazing. They have some new fall menu items you have to try! For starters you have to try the pumpkin spice latte, and if you like apples you will like their apple caramel latte.

You MUST try their loaded hashbrown, absolutely amazing and flavorful!

We also enjoyed our lox cream cheese bagel and bacon egg and cheese bagel.
