If you asked yourself any or all of these questions and said to yourself... yes.... then guess what, Shortway's is the place for you.

Very good seating inside, on Friday and Saturday nights it gets packed sometimes due to live music and other events that take place there, but even so, it still has a comfortable feel and you will still find there is room to get around.

Service is great, they have never botched an order of mine in 5-7 years plus of myself and friends and family dining there.

Good beer selection, there aren't 50+ taps like other bars, but the beers they have are good quality, and COLD.

The staff is incredible, the owner is a true Gentleman and Patriot and proud supporter of the community and his patrons and staff.

Very family oriented vibe from the staff and owners.

A bunch of good old family buds from the local schools and towns like Midland Park, Ridgewood, Hawthorne, Glen Rock area; Wyckoff is included!! Lots of customers of Holland/Dutch ancestry! I graduated from Midland Park Junior High & took the old Susquehanna RR from the Wortendyke train station to Pompton lakes High. Other sending districts included Wayne, Oakland, of course Pompton Lakes and a couple of other outlying municipalities!! We all were a very close-knit group at the time. Years after I retired to Point Pleasant at the Jersey shore. Lived there for 30 years - miss it. I now live about an hour west in Yardley, Pa. with one of my daughters (Janet Bogert). My other daughter resides in Brick Township,N.J. (the shore)!!! Maybe I’ll visit soon!!! Once I was a bar customer at the White Sands bar when a large wedding party from Shortways entered that nice place. About 75 people from the Hawthorne to Midland Park area. We all knew people who we went to school with, etc. It was great and an unexpected party of buds!!! That’s kinda like LIFE...

I've lived in town long time never go here bc reputation is "feels like the music stops if you are remotely tan". The place is always full of trump and charley Kirk flags but i went anyway. Food: is poorly executed although its the simplest diner fare. No light food, nothing delicious just bulky fillers out of box or can about the most unhealthy food in town. Amercan food doesnt have to be this bad. Fresh It up dont you have a goid American chef? Service: is good if they know you (thats always a good sign) but it'll still be lunch bad waitress service. Ambiance: cool nostalgic shape of barn but hasn't got a clean feel dust and grime at every corner. Its actually a concern sanitationwise if im being honest. Utensils, plates, glasses the cheapest you can get.

As a resident of hawthorne for 4 decades I find any business using their platform for promoting their racist political views to the public is offensive, and not appropriate. Businesses should at least remain neutral unless they want to openly offend 30% of town...
