Today I was fully reminded of the ignorance that sadly still exists in this country. My wife and I decided to go to Nics Tavern “hey burger” to try their burgers since we heard great things about their food. Upon entering the establishment we felt the mood in the bar shift- awkwardly. As we sat down, no one greeted us and I noticed a few stares met with disdain. We chose to dismiss the stares and awkward tension since we were starving and we were looking forward to having some good food. The next 10 minutes me and my wife experienced were the most demeaning, disrespectful and quite frankly disheartening 10 minutes I ever experienced. The bartender never acknowledged us and acted like we didn’t exist. We were not greeted, offered drinks or menus and pretty much we could’ve been ghosts since that’s how we felt. Everyone sitting around us (who were all Caucasians) were served with a smile and tended to while me and my wife sat there being ignored on purpose. After ten minutes passed we decided to get up and leave the establishment. Again, this is my perception that I experienced but poor service and disrespect should not be tolerated in any business. My Hispanic heritage should not be the deciding factor that allows me and my wife to enjoy a meal. I am an affluent individual as well as my wife, and we are both blessed with successful careers and an abundant life that we have worked hard for and cherish. I was looking forward to putting my hard earned money into an establishment in my neighborhood and I was unfortunately reminded of that idle ignorance that still exists. Please do not waste your time visiting this establishment. Unfortunately they only serve up racism and if your not white regretfully you are not right- for their business. Let this be a lesson to the owner of this place - be very vigilant of how you treat patrons because you never know the opportunity you could’ve had by just being nice and treating people with respect. A business is only successful when they don’t see color but simply serving and showing love to one another. I’m thankful to say that we will never go to this place again and I will make sure to be a sounding board to anyone that asks me about nics tavern (hey burger) -simply put don’t go there because they are racists. Fortunately enough, my wife and I ended up going to McDonald’s and enjoyed great service and delicious food at a fraction of the cost that we would’ve spent at an establishment that treated us like we are less then humans. I just pray the hurt me and my wife felt of being treated like that -that no one at that establishment ever experiences- all and all my experience was very hurtful. Sad. I just hope this helps anyone that might experience this if they happen to go. Tread lightly.. or just go...
Read moreThis is a local bar. It has a small feel with plenty of space. You can find many local New Jersey breweries on tap here, from the big boys (Kane and Carton) to the smaller establishments (Belford and Raritan). They have great specials almost everyday of the week. The staff is friendly and the food is good. Got the wings and mozzarella sticks. Sundays they have both the New York Giants and the New York Jets on and playing through the speakers. They do the same for Thursday night and Monday night football too. Can't wait to continue to give this place...
Read moreI came on Trivia Night. The atmosphere was fun. It looked like they were understaffed. I ordered the burger with mushrooms. After reading the reviews, I don't know if it was an off night, but the burger was OK. It didn't have much flavor. It looked like they flattened the burger. Or, maybe it's supposed to be? My first time dining here. I realized it's called smash burger, but seeing other photos from reviews it looks different. Why would they serve a flattened burger with...
