Jimmy's Quick Lunch in #Hazleton, #PA has been slinging hot dogs the same way since 1937. One with everything comes in a steamed bun topped with their own hand crafted mustard, specialty chili, and cooked, diced white onions.

They line their flattop grill with all manner of Dietz & Watson dogs, but I opted for a regular with everything, extra heavy toppings ($.10 upcharge) and a 5:1 German frank with mustard and kraut. The German dog has some kick to it... maybe more than the jalapeño hot dog they also offer!

I spoke with the owner Jim, who pointed out the name on the sign was actually his grandfather. I asked about their sauerkraut, and he said they don't make it themselves, but it doesn't come from a can and they do a little something to it. Whatever it is, it tasted good to me!

As for the mustard? He used to buy the Medford brand in 55 gallon drums. Then the label and recipe was bought by French's, and then again by Kraft, and while it was produced in one gallon containers for awhile, the mustard was finally discontinued. Now, he has to do a little mixing and doctoring to approximate the old flavor as best he can.

How good is it? Well, all the little old ladies who also used to use Medford to make their mustard chow chow (regional recipe for chopped canned veggies) now come to him for the goods! All he charges for it is a jar of chow chow for...

Let me say that stepping into Jimmy's Quick Lunch was like stepping back into time for me. I absolutely felt like I was sitting in my Nonnas luncheonette with the generation of photos. I was traveling through this town n heard about Jimmy's n how he has the best hot dogs in all of hazelton pa n the menu would make you feel like you stepped into the 50's especially with the prices. Jimmy's server to service felt like I was at home. I travel with 2 service dogs as Jimmy's welcomed them with hotdogs n a smile. I was extremely grateful for that. Now, let's talk about the menu. I ordered 2 hot dogs n mash with sauerkraut. N my campion had a jalapeno stuffed hot dog with cheese on top of it we had old fashioned egg cream and a chocolate Cola I highly recommend Jimmy's especially if you're a large family and you don't have much money this is the place to go for a home-cooked meal.
