Pop's Country Cafe — Restaurant in Hemet

Even though it's in a strip mall the atmosphere is pretty decent. Feels like a lot of locals eat here. The problem was the food really. My wife's hashbrowns were mushy. She actually thought they had served her the wrong dish. The country fried steak was just a fried flap or skirt steak. It wasn't what you'd typically expect when ordering country fried steak covered in crust etc... it was just a thin piece of fried meat with gravy thrown on it. There's a sign written on notebook paper at the counter declaring a $1 surcharge for any meal made with eggs. I didn't see it till I was AT the counter paying. The bathroom situation is less than ideal. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to it. I do appreciate unique diners though. Not sure I want to live in a world where you have two options IHOP or Denny's but, this place could use a...

Ordered a scramble. It’s supposed to come with three eggs, bacon, spinach, and mushroom. For one, there was definitely not 3 eggs in there. Maybe one. There was the equivalent of a strip of bacon if even that, and like 4 mushrooms. The scramble was mainly spinach, and the spinach tasted terrible. It’s possible they’re using frozen spinach, because with every bite I took liquid just came out. It was incredibly soggy and not pleasant at all. It was a very small portion and unfortunately it just didn’t taste good in the slightest. I took 2 bites and left the rest. Also, the Tabasco and tapatio bottles look like they’ve been there forever. There was gray CLUMPS in them. I couldn’t even put Tabasco on to drown out the taste of the scramble because of unidentified chunky pieces being in there. I should’ve taken pics. Chick was great, place was great. I ordered a huge breakfast cause I was real hungry and craving breakfast- expected a hole in the wall like this to have some amazing grub.. It was just mediocre tbh.. If the biscuits in the biscuits and gravy was softer and every bite of the omelette I chose wasn't overpowered by the texture and saltiness of the crispy bacon in it, I'd have rated the food better. As it was, IHOP or Denny's might have had better food. Maybe it was just an off day tho. But as hungry as I was that food should've been hitting instead of just meh. The hashbrowns and eggs were bomb, but idk how you could mess those up. All in all, I'd say give it a go! Service and atmosphere are great and local businesses in this town can always use your support. Maybe I just ordered the wrong...
