First Take-Out Visit – Authentic, but Needs Fine-Tuning
I visited this small, family-run Thai spot for take-out and wanted to love it — but I left somewhat disappointed. This place appears to offer a more authentic menu than many Thai restaurants in California, but some dishes need a little attention.
Ordering Notes:
No updated menu online — always ask for prices when ordering take-out.
Portions are modest (Less than 2 Cups ea). For a family of four, plan on 4–6 entrees to get enough food, which can run $75–$100 including drinks.
My Order & Ratings:
Pad Thai: 3/5 – Okay, but a bit dry and noodles overcooked.
Penang Beef: 3/5 – Beef was chewy and dry, overpowering the curry’s flavor. Sauce was oily. Chicken or shrimp would be better here. IF you are used-to Penang with chicken or shrimp, you will probably struggle with this flavor profile, however, once you get used to the idea of beef, if you can accept how the beef flavor changes the Penang, it might still be enjoyable.
Red Curry: 3/5 – Flavorful, but the chicken was dry and sauce minimal.
Mint Leaves: 0/5 – Be Careful. Thin, extremely spicy broth; nearly impossible to eat. This broth was so hot, I nearly had a throat convulsion. Some folks might like this level of heat, but they are a minority, and this was a waste of my money. I will admit that I am pretty UPSET, as I explained this was a first time visit, and that I didn't want spicy dishes.
Observe: Take-out containers (just under 2 cups) could be larger to hold more sauce and balance the dishes. Take-out containers at other Thai places are about 3 to 3.5 cups in size as a comparison.
Service was very friendly.
The restaurant has charm and authenticity, but take-out limits the ability to adjust or exchange dishes in order to gain overall enjoyment of this eatery...
Overall: This is a place best visited in person, where you can communicate your preferences to the chef and ensure dishes are prepared to your liking. If you dine in, I’m confident you could have a much better experience than I did with Take-Out.
Consider: I recommend NOT to have take-out as a first time visit. Take-out would be fine, but only after having been a customer a few times, in order to get to know the chef's cooking style.
Final Thought: If you’re seeking authentic Thai flavors and enjoy supporting local, family-run restaurants, this is worth a visit — just consider dining-in for the...
Read moreIf I can give zero stars... I would. But I can’t. This by far was the worst “Thai Food” I have ever eaten.. and I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food. This was not authentic Thai food at all. And it was expensive for what we received. We spent 130 dollars through door dash. We ordered two “yellow chicken curry entree” $20 bucks a piece.. and it was a personal size when we received it. It had chicken.. and beef when we only ordered chicken. It tasted like a beef stew with a hint of curry powder. There was so much grease, in this “curry” it was so gross. I couldn’t even finish it. The Pad Thai noodle was mushy and very greasy as well. No flavor what so ever. We ordered wontons... and I can honestly say I have never had a wonton with what seemed like a chicken nugget inside (processed meat). The wontons came with “sweet and sour sauce”.. the base of this sauce was ketchup. I grew up on ketchup.. and my tastebuds could taste the ketchup right away. The vegetable and shrimp tempora was sub par.. but who can really mess up tempora? Bottom line is. Don’t waste your money and be disappointed like we were. We spent 130 dollars for it to go inside of the trash because we flat out couldn’t eat it. I’ve eaten at better real Thai places for half that price and have gotten more quality and quantity for my buck. Extremely dissatisfied, and 130 dollars later still hungry....
