We had been regulars of Bistro's for a few years. At the end, without saying much of anything, things changed. We ordered a lot of our regular items, thinking it was still Bistro and when I picked up the food was much smaller portion (specifically the calzones. I commented on this and said "Why is this half the size of when we ordered a week ago? Is it going to be this way going forward?" No answer. So I asked them--no comment? The guy just said "do you want another one?" Anyway, apparently the changeover already happened and my calzone was the "medium" one--even though I was not asked for a size when I ordered. So I hadn't gone back in months, assuming that the prices went up and sizes went down. Understandable considering the current climate, but when I say half size, I legitimately mean it was half the size of what it used to be.
That being said, we (now knowingly) ordered from Emilio's to give them another shot. I noticed that now the calzones had sizes--just medium and small. They had a lot of options--mostly similar to Bistro's menu.
We got 3 calzones, 1 pizza, 1 fettuccini alfredo, "hot" wings w/fries, and an order of garlic knots.
Calzones: We ordered the "large". They were 2 dollars more I think. I am only assuming my tiny one from before was the "medium" but I don't actually know. They were good sized, taking up a good portion of the little pizza box they come in. One was a self-made cheese, pineapple and peperoni one. The other two were the "Emilio's stuffed Bread" pre-made. Because of the pricing structure, the custom one with 2 fillers was the same price as the pre-made one with 4-5 fillers. Crust was good, crusty on the outside and chew--but fully cooked--on the inside. Not the most thick, but perfectly fine.
The wife shamed our family (kidding...kinda) by ordering the West Coast BBQ Pizza, 16" (large) for $21. That crust was thin, and crunchy on the bottom, but just barely. I felt it was perfect--I know some folks like chewier or whatever, but those folks are wrong. And even thought it was a BBQ pizza (seriously, what is wrong with her?) it was really good. Oh, and despite it being cut at the shop--the crust wasn't even HINTING at getting soggy. That alone was amazing. I loved their crust.
Daughter liked the pasta. I'm pretty sure it was run of the mill--however it did have a slightly different taste--she said it tasted like sunflower seeds--not sure what it was, but there was a slight earthiness. I liked it better, honestly. I just said "that's authentic Italian Alfredo" even though I've read Italy wouldn't touch "alfredo" with a 10ft pole.
The wings were standard as far as flavor profile goes (ie, hot/buffalo type flavor) but they were good. Like, I would happily have that hot flavor again. Upper quality on that "generic" flavor. They have several other options, but I didn't try those. It was not unique in any way, but it was a delicious take on the standard. Wings were decently crispy underneath the sauce.
The fries that come with the wings were pretty run of the mill. While the wings were crispy, the fries were soggy. Thick cut (but not "steak" fries) and they had seasoning on them, but paired with the more powerful flavors around me, I didn't taste anything. Pass on the fries. The wings were average size and they were good. I'd rather trade more wings for the fries, but at $10.99 for 7 wings (as I'm not counting the fries as food) it's not the greatest deal. Good wings, not good price. The bucket of wings would be a better deal if you want to avoid the fries (they drop from 1.60 per wing to 1.15, so use that how you will).
Garlic knots. Good, strong garlic flavor, but the butter was clarified (I think) so there was essentially no butter flavor, just throat lube. I did note that out of the 12 or however many we got, at least two that I saw were SATURATED in butter to the point of almost being like biting a full sponge. It gushed out.
Their marinara sauce had a sweet flavor, very much like...HONEY? I don't know, that's what I...
Read moreEvery week, I embark on a delicious journey through Las Vegas and the surrounding cities, exploring the best pizzerias. This week, my quest kept me close to home here in Henderson, to a hidden gem with glowing reviews: Emilio's Italian Pizzeria. Emilio's isn't just another pizza joint; it's a family-owned and operated establishment, with roots tracing back to the picturesque town of Brescia, Italy.
From the moment you step inside Emilio's, the rich aroma of freshly baked dough, simmering tomato sauce, and melting cheese envelops you. It's a sensory prelude to what promises to be an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a charming old-world Italian vibe that makes you feel like part of the family.
The pièce de résistance at Emilio's is undoubtedly the Meathead pizza, affectionately known as a meat lover's paradise. I didn't eat there, however, as the pizza is readied and prepared for inspection for the customer, the first thing that hits you is the tantalizing scent of perfectly cooked meats mingling with the fresh spices. The crust is crispy on the outside and delightfully chewy on the inside, providing the perfect foundation for this hearty creation.
Each bite of the Meathead pizza is a symphony of flavors. The generous toppings include savory slices of pepperoni, succulent sausage, smoky ham, and tender bits of bacon, all harmonizing beautifully with the gooey mozzarella and tangy tomato sauce. The meats are seasoned to perfection, creating a rich and satisfying taste that doesn't need any additional condiments. Asking for red pepper flakes or Parmesan cheese would almost be an insult to the chef's masterful creation.
Eating at Emilio's is more than just a meal; it's an experience. You can almost see the rolling hills of Brescia and hear the laughter of the family members who have poured their hearts into every dish. The dedication to authentic Italian flavors and quality ingredients is evident in every bite.
If you're a pizza enthusiast like me, always on the hunt for the next best slice, Emilio's Italian Pizzeria in Henderson is a must-try. Trust me, once you experience the magic of their Meathead pizza, you'll be planning your next visit before you even finish your first slice. So, gather your friends and family, and head over to Emilio's for a true taste of Italy right...
Read moreRecommend. This was a nice place with some really delicious food and friendly people/service. Nothing fancy inside -- pretty chill.
My wife and I are new(er) to the Henderson area, and we're trying all the pizza spots to find something akin to what are used to back east (Philly/South Jersey area so you have an idea of what we're used to). I can give a thumbs-up to this place.
First, the ingredients are FRESH! You taste every topping. The sausage on my Bada Bing pizza wasn't crumbled -- it was sliced Italian sausage. Man, I love that! The green peppers had some crunch and tasted like green peppers instead of a heated mush. Same for the onions. My wife said the same thing about her pepperoni and black olives. You taste it all. That made my day.
The dough is just a little more bread-like than I'm used to instead of being a little more dense, floppy, and foldable, but it was still super-delicious, nonetheless. And the leftovers tasted just as good the next morning.
My one disappointment, though, was my order of garlic parm wings. I was specific in asking if they were sauced and not just wings sprinkled with parmesan cheese and minced garlic. I was assured they were sauced, but nope. However, I'll give them marks for some freshly minced garlic cooked up right then and there. Again, FRESH! Man, it makes a difference and eased my disappointment. Next time I'll just try the regular Buffalo wings.
Super-friendly folks, too. I'll be back, for sure, to try some of their other specialty pizzas and maybe a...
