George's
So after ten years in the area, we took the plunge and tried the local bistro. Was it worth the wait? Nah, not really.
Firstly it's kinda hard to find. Nestled near an underpass with only a stylized sign on one side of the building, and the name on the opposite side pretty high up, it doesn't appear to be a restaurant at all (no door or signage facing the street). The parking lot is cramped and easy to miss as well. No visible signage as to which door is the entrance, and when we did find the door it was in a state of disrepair and difficult to open. There was some outdoor seating but the humidity was excessive when we visited, so there was only one person out there who may or may not have been an employee. Once inside the air-conditioning wasn't up to the task of removing the humidity. Employees seemed to be sitting everywhere doing very little.
We were seated immediately as there was hardly anyone in the place. It was around 3 p.m. and there was a party of three already eating, a party of 4 or 6 waiting for their orders, the two of us were being seated, and a party of 6 came in after we were watered.
The menu was small, which isn't a bad thing, but in this case it seemed abrupt almost. The selections were all over the map. It came off as not knowing what it wanted to be as an eatery. The pricing didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason either from what I could tell. Some was underpriced, a few were overpriced.
We made our selections and our server memorized our order instead of writing it down, forcing us to repeat ourselves. The server was personable, but apparently preoccupied with other things as the only times we saw her was during ordering, water, and cashing out. Other than that everything else was handled by someone else while she checked in truck orders or what have you.
Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and appeared to be correct. Generous portions and cooked well except for my chicken wings; way overcooked. Inexcusable in a nearly empty restaurant. I understand that the cooks are busy between lunch and dinner, but a timer cost a few dollars. That kinda got in my craw. The original wings looked tossed and came with bleu cheese and veggies while the replacements looked liked the sauce had been dumped on after plating, with no bleu cheese. Now remember, there are 17 people in the dining room. Not busy at all. That's one cardinal sin.
Cardinal sin number two I didn't even realize until we were cashing out. Apparently there was a service charge that we found out about because the server took it off for the wing thing. Service charge!? Funny, it doesn't say that on the menu! It does mention a 20% "gratuity fee" on parties over 8. Apparently they don't understand what the tipping system is for or how it's supposed to work. I won't pay a "service fee" and a tip unless the service is spectacular (it wasn't, it was adequate). You need more money? Serve a better product, more of it, or increase your prices.
All in all, not a particularly memorable experience. You could get a more coherent menu, and less multi-tasking at any T.G.I. Out-Apple Tuesday's for the same price without forced tipping.
TL;DR - not worth the wait, not worth the trip. (This review is for the Henderson location only, although this experience doesn't inspire me to...
Read moreAfter a meeting downtown, it was suggested that we check out George's. This must be the locals' local spot as tons of people picking up orders as well as eating inside. We were quickly seated at a table and settled in. I checked out their menu while glancing at the large and colorful plates go by. Their menu was a mix of southern favorites such as jambalaya and as well as ribs, burgers, wings, and a variety of salads. I decided to get the spinach pie that came with a Greek salad.
I did not know what I was in for as about 20 minutes later, our waitress, who was super attentive and kept our drinks full, brought me my food. I received a tower of Greek salad along with two slightly crispy pieces of spinach pie. It took me a few moments to take all of this in. I picked up my fork and dived into the salad first. Crisp, refreshing, and so fresh. I loved the large pieces of bell pepper as well as the olives, feta, and mixed greens. Did I mention how fresh it was?!? Now to the pie, it was nothing like I've had before. A slight saltiness and crispness and paired with the tzaiki sauce coolness. I had to stop and, of course, take my leftovers with me. The salad made an amazing dinner later on, btw!
I see why this place is so busy! The food is amazing and fairly priced, the service phenomenal, the restaurant is pretty large. I will be back in Henderson over the next few months, so I will be back to enjoy another entree at...
Read moreI did a carry out. 29 Jan 22 Once I received my order, I checked the order, only to find out my side salad was not added. Waitress, forgot to add. Honest mistake….. I ordered the mild chicken wings, they put only flats, ( no Drumettes) always get mix of each. I called back to express my dismay. Advised I would need to speak with the owner, (kadar) I went by restaurant, spoke to manager, was again told need to com back Monday to speak with manager (kadar). Manager on duty didn’t have authority to correct the issue. Did go by Monday, only to be advised that when I order again I’d get half price on another wing order. Wasn’t pleased with the resolve, I didn’t eat the wings, and returned them to the restaurant. (amid corvid, protocol) the best I could get was 6.00 for half the wing order. Disappointed that I had to return twice to resolve, and I spent a total of 38.00 on my initial order. I decided I’d not go there for service anymore, especially after the delayed minimal cus service. And being able to keep wings over the weekend, and the wings were brought back in the restaurant and left there. Good I wasn’t infected with the corvid virus. ….poor...
