I live in the far Northwest part of Las Vegas so whenever I'm heading to Henderson, I have to do some homework since I am unfamiliar with certain areas of that city. I was researching new brunch restaurants that's within close proximity to the Clark County Museum because I was heading there afterwards, and of course a place that has a decent rating/reviews - this business popped up as a suitable option. After coming to an agreement, my family and I made a reservation online and later on, hopped in the vehicle and drove across the valley/city to eat at Mom's Kitchen.
When we walked in, we were greeted nicely and met at the entrance by one of the employees. We arrived ~24 minutes earlier than our reservation time because I had to anticipate traffic and we were starving. We were fortunate enough that they had a table for us and it wasn't reserved for anyone (I like to think it was actually reserved for us in the first place). The restaurant décor was decent; nothing too fancy and nothing uninviting. The table we had was annoying because it kept wobbling around, so I had to use a couple of sugar packets to place under one of the table legs so it would stop going back and forth (and no, there wasn't another open table to switch to). The chairs were inconsistent in the restaurant; I saw one random chair at a table that looked comfortable and I thought about grabbing it, and I wish I would have, because the chair I had was horrible. The tables could've been positioned a little better, IMO. Our server rarely came to my side because navigating seemed difficult between other tables. Not to mention, it just doesn't seem safe for everyone (employees and customers) from a safety standpoint if an emergency occurred. But hey, I'm not a safety inspector.
The food was ok. We ordered the BATS Omelette, Santa Fe Omelette, Mom's Breakfast Burrito w/Sausage, Short Stack of Pancakes, Coffee (not pictured), and a Malibu Smoothie (not pictured). I was shocked to see the Sante Fe Omelette presented the way it was. If this entrée has any correlation to the city of Sante Fe (New Mexico), then I'm disappointed because this entrée should've been drenched with that red sauce (or Christmas style, IYKYK), and have a thicker consistency. But if the name means something else, then I guess I have nothing to compare it to - just wished there were more sauce from the start (yes, I could've asked for more...but that's not the point). The burrito was just ok; my daughter seemed to like it although she had mentioned that she's had better. The pancakes were not worth getting because it wasn't fluffy and the outside texture wasn't adequate. The BATS Omelette was decent; I just wish that it would've been bigger and that I had more than one strip of bacon. I realized afterwards from others' reviews (pictures) and on Yelp (business's page), that I was supposed to have received two slices of bacon. How dare you mess with a guy and his love for bacon. 😂 I'd say the stand out items for this experience were the Chips and Beans; Malibu Smoothie, and Coffee.
Overall, this place is just ok (3-stars). I wouldn't travel across the city to make a special trip to solely visit this restaurant again; however, I can see myself possibly visiting again if I'm in the immediate area and have tried other breakfast places within a 5-mile radius. The price-to-quantity/quality ratio is slightly less than adequate, but not unreasonable. The service was great, thanks to our primary server (Josh) - he was extremely professional and efficient in his line of work. I am highly appreciative of this restaurant's support to the active folks of the Armed Forces, including its Veterans - thank you for that! Aside from my slightly negative comments, I still recommend this business to everyone...especially the ones that haven't tried...
Read moreIs it possible to give more than 5 stars? Wish I could. Let me begin with saying I'm sad that I don't live in the area...our meal was the result of timing and a need to get out of the car after hours on the road. If I lived closer, this would be my go-to breakfast spot. Saturday morning, 9:45ish. I thought there would be a long wait. Nope! We were able to be seated right away. The interior is on the small side (max seating 73) and not chaotic in its decor. It felt welcoming and comfortable. We were greeted warmly by our server and given some time to look over the menu. I ordered the Sante Fe omelette with fruit and wheat toast...and a side pumpkin pancake. My husband had the Breakfast Sandwich with hash browns. I have to start with the Pumpkin Pancake. I order a pumpkin pancake at any restaurant that offers it and never, ever, not even once have I come close to having a pancake of any variety that was this positively perfect. Somehow it was slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy and moist on the inside. They don't shy away from flavor either. If Fall was a taste, this pancake would be its finest example. Plus, it was topped with warm, diced apples, caramel sauce and whipped cream that was perfection. Each bite was a bit of paradise. My main meal was delightful. The fruit cup had a great variety of seasonal fruits all of which were fresh and sweet. The omelette was enormous and very tasty. At one point, my husband and I decided we could have split one dish and been fully fed. His sandwich was packed full of goodness and hard to keep in the roll it was served in. Oh! And don't let me forget to mention that before our meal was served, we were given a small plate of homemade tortilla chips and bean dip. Can't quite put my finger on what went into the beans but there was a smoky, meaty taste that kept me dipping. Nice touch, even if it's not what I would eat that early in the a.m. I have paid far more for breakfast that wasn't even close to the quality and deliciousness of today's meal. So reasonable!! As stated before, I am sad I won't be able to visit again any time soon. For now, a tip of the cap for a...
Read moreAt first, it seems to be a very unassuming brunch place. No big signs or anything that try to garner a passerby’s attention. Even the inside is very simple, it has exactly what’s needed to make a restaurant: chairs, tables, lights, and music. Still, I highly recommend giving this place a chance. In fact, I implore you to come here.
The server greeted me in a way that was different than your usual chain restaurants would greet you. No script, no fake smile, just genuine hospitality. I ordered the Mom’s BYO Burrito and a side of house potatoes. While I waited, I was given a plate of beans and tortilla chips. Typically, I’m not one for beans. I find they can be too gritty or even bitter at times. Imagine my surprise when I take a bite and none of that was apparent. I saved some of my left over beans actually for the burrito that came 3-5 minutes after I finished off my chips.
I had my burrito with sausage, onions, and hash browns. Very good and tightly wrapped. Nothing was falling out even at the end of the burrito. Now, remember that side of house potatoes I ordered? I was expecting a small bowl. Incorrect, I was given an entire PLATE. Mind you I am NOT complaining at ALL. In fact, I was very happy. The house potatoes were way beyond my expectations of $4.75. It could have very well been a meal on its own if you put sausage on there. The cheese had a crisp to it that worked well with the potatoes. With all this on my table, I finished my meal with earnest, paid, and then left.
I have no problems at all with this place. I will say that I went close to closing time. So, they were cleaning up while I was eating. Which is a-ok with me however, since the place is quite small the smell of detergent/disinfectant fills the air even with the doors open. I’ve worked in restaurants before so I’ve become quite nose blind to these scents. But, I do know for some it might steer them away.
Mom’s Kitchen is a good brunch spot with no frills and amazing food. Give it a go and you’ll be going home fuller than you...
