This place was recommended by a family friend as an "off the beaten path, gourmet chef, must try".
We took a review recommendation of going online to "get on the guest list", although they say it is not a guaranteed time frame. With no way to tell when we would get called up, we waited at the house another 30 mins or so before embarking on our cuisine adventure.
It was a little hard finding the place but I found a small little round sign on the very top of a building and made out the words "stove". "Aha!" Discreetly tucked on top of a tavern, they really put on the "secret entrance" facade you'd normally see in gourmet kitchens in Paris.
The oddly exquisite, out of place golden elevator seemed like the kind of portal we were looking for. Up to the 2nd floor and you get barraged with the smell of flavor! We couldn't wait! But alas, our elevator doors opened to a brick wall of guests, all waiting. "This place must be good!"
We heard a meek voice popping out from behind a small desk in the corner covered in business cards asking us if we were on "the list". Like members of the yacht club, we said "of course!" We ended up being another 45 mins away from taste bud explosion, so with babies in hand, went back to the car and pulled up the menu online to plan our attack.
30 mins later we get our text invitation telling us our yacht club table is ready for us! Once again we ride our golden elevator up to cash in our winning lottery tickets to tasty town.
Instantly I felt as if my 30 year old form was too old for such a place. This was like a trendy Starbucks lounge for college seniors who drink too many mimosas but want to feel sophisticated. But I still couldn't get passed the smells of gourmet food wafting across my nose.
We were greeted by a waitress who was nice and smiled but didn't suggest any drinks or recommend a mimosa, which I assumed was the main attraction based on all the tables around us. We tried the manmosa, which is lager beer and orange juice, and a red velvet and both were delightfully light for brunch but did the job!
The decor in this beautiful view ridden restaurant was spot on! High class with the right amount of wierd. And did I mention the views? Sitting down made us feel, as they claimed, like you were in your home kitchen. It may have been my manmosa talking but it was really relaxing and I felt like I could stay a while.
Unfortunately for us, "a while" was about an hour, just on the ticket time! I would've made a bigger deal about it but they were very busy and the food smelled worth the wait. 45 minutes in, we had to ask if they had any quick appetizers that would hold us over. The waitress reappeared with a warm, moist orange cranberry muffin! Just like mom used to make!
Seeing what looked like the head chef delivering food to a couple tables, we really started thinking they hit the nail on the head with Paris etiquette. It turns out you have to personally know the chef for him to greet your table. It's always a warm hospitality A+ to get greeted by the chef. Before we could blink, we were presented with our requests and couldn't wait to dig in, but with enough restraint to match the class of our surroundings.
My egg tacos were artfully laid out on a clear glass tray, which would've been fantastic had it not had water spots on it. Such effort went in to staging these tacos just to ruin it with the vessel. They were delicious though! Perfectly prepared.
The butternut squash ravioli with egg was also very good! We ordered the egg over hard and came not quite hard enough. But the flavor was there!
The restroom was decked to match the theme of the restaurant with a dark, artsy look to it. They could've used a restroom check up as I suspect the mimosas impaired the aim of a few patrons and the trash was full.
Overall this was a pleasant experience and would've been an easy 5 stars had the small details not been overlooked by staff and a waiter wasn't yelling over our heads from his P.O.S terminal to the table next to us.
We look forward to coming back and enjoying some more...
Read more( I posted this also on yelp) so that everyone can be aware of the owners friend AND the toxic fee! My friends and I decided to have brunch here and get their mimosas. Everything was great! We were having so much fun! Food was good, our server was great, up until the bill came. We had no problem paying the bill, we gave our server cash and wanted to put the rest on card. The server left with the cash and came back with a different receipt and said she had to add $50 fee for a "toxic waste" . We were confused by that fee because why tell us at the end there was a fee? Also if someone from our group threw up and they knew it was us, why keep serving us more alcohol?? Also they said they had video and a witness who saw someone from our party threw up. They couldn't show us the video or tell us who in our group was responsible. NOW this is where things got even WORSE! Our server said the owner was there and would like to speak to someone from our group. Everything was fine my friend who is pregnant went to go talk to the owner. The owner was explaining it to my friend and the owner ended up coming to our table to explain even more to all of us and we just wanted her to hear us out. The OWNERS FRIEND cut the owner off mid conversation and got involved and tried to explain talking over us as WE ARE TALKING TO THE OWNER and the owners friend CLAPPED HER HANDS WITH ATTITUDE TO MY FRIENDS HUSBAND FACE ASSUMING HE POINTED FINGERS AT HER. The owner even told her friend to stop and to not get involved. I even asked her if she was the owner and she was NOT so there was no REASON for her to get involved. The owner was doing amazing explaining! we were even hugging and laughing with her and she even invited us back. I then noticed AGAIN the owners friend kept talking to my husband being sarcastic and rude and I told her politely " hey you don't need to talk to him it's all good, you can go we're good." She then got attitude with me telling ME! I don't need to tell her where to go!! All I was trying to do was defuse what was happening with my husband and the owners friend! If she would've just left everything would've been fine the owner was doing good without her! She should have never...
Read moreWe first arrived at 12:00pm and were told there was an hour maybe an hour 45 wait. Multiple people with out reservations were seated before us. We spoke to the front who said we were next an hour 30 mins later, two hours in we spoke to the management who stated “they’re doing the best they can” but did not apologize, kept cutting us off, and gave massive attitude. I explained if it wasn’t feasible for them to seat us they should’ve stated that in the beginning instead of luring us under false pretenses. There was absolutely no empathy nor transparency shown. They explained “well we meant you’re next for you table size” which is completely different I proceeded to ask what table they waiting on specifically that could seat 6 they ignored me and refusing to point out those tables. They then said there was no other managers but quickly changed that answer when I asked about the owner. The owner Antonio came over and pointed and clapped in our face stating “so this is how it works” he proceeded to talk over me, mansplain, and continuing to point his finger in our face. He then stated “If you don’t like it you can post a review and leave” he then walked away before saying “I am Antonio the owner so” I am filing a complaint with the BBB as well. I will never recommend this place to anyone. They even stated they make their reservations wait. They have a sign that says 1.5 hour limit on tables but let tables stay for 2+ hours they also showed favoritism by allowing those back who they knew and “shook them up”. The owner is classless, tasteless, business incompetent human being. There was no sense of urgency nor customer service. The hostesses were under trained and couldn’t answer any questions, they looked lost half the time. The other half they were on their phones. If my family ran their hotel business this way they’d have 0 business. This place is a nightmare and will not be in business much longer with the way this owner runs and speaks to others. He need to be taught how to run a business and speak to others. Steer clear and do not...
