Carmen’s Cafe — Restaurant in Herrin

All I wanted to do was try their Burger. Once inside I waited for over 15 minutes. While I waited I watched 3 staff behind the counter. One was waiting on a "customer/friend from school". Another was cleaning and stocking near the tubs of ice cream. The third one was cleaning and refilling containers. After the customer left, the staff kinda disappeared as well. The one filling the containers walked over to a register so I took the moment to ask if she was able to take my order. Thank the Lord. She was able to.. 1 double cheese burger with bacon, fires and a soda. ... I went to fill the small cup with diet Pepsi to find that it was out. I asked the two guys behind the counter if the drive thru machine was working... They checked and NO it too was out. The young girl went to the back the change it I am guessing since she disappeared. I settled on a DR pepper... Now I see the cook this entire time mine you and I had originally tried to give him my order after the first ten minutes of waiting. He was unable to either hear or understand what I was saying. Non the less.. my order is now ready. He is ringing a bell and calling to the front. NO ONE WILL ANSWER HIS CALL. The Cook comes out from the back and hands me my food. Thank you so much what ever your name is I appreciate you. Now after all this I drove across town and sat down to eat my order. Fresh cut fries yeah... I LIFT out this monster of a burger. Lord it was huge. I had no idea they were sooo big... But here is where it went wrong again.. the taste of the burger itself was off. I am not sure if it was beef or made with a filler or not but I could not eat it. I ask my mother to try it and she too did not like the taste... So will I go back... Umm, yes. But I will not be getting the burger ever again, and I will not be silent while being ignored by the...

Very delicious homemade ice-cream 😋. So good in fact we went two days in a row to try new flavors. My daughters also really liked the cotton candy. I know it's cliche, but all the flavors we tried were absolutely perfect. I had the cookie dough and chocolate flavors. My wife had the oreo and coffee. My daughters had the cotton candy ice-cream. We all emphatically enjoyed our sweet treat. Great location with plenty of parking. Love the fact it's the old DQ location. There is also gaming available which is always a nice touch. Plenty of seating and most importantly the staff was very friendly! The do offer burgers and fries as well. I haven't tried any yet, but I will have to check it...

Well I’ve been here a total of 3x- I bought the same fish platter, I love fish The first time was amazing! (Picture to show) The second time I went back was last Sunday, I also brought my aunt and little cousin from a nearby town and the service wasn’t the same. After spending $30 on food, I was still charged for pickles by the server (the first time they just put pickle on the sides) which I didn’t mind, but it was like 3 pickles in the container. I came back today 3/29/25 before my work shift called my order in and the fish was dry and it was not even good at all. The dish was smaller than the first. Idk maybe I should try something else, but it’s definitely not consistent...
