Golden Chick — Restaurant in Hewitt

I visited the restaurant Golden Chick, located at 227 Enterprise Blvd, Hewitt TX 76643

I ordered the triple tender sandwich and chicken salad salad for lunch around 3:30 pm on Friday, August 14th.

The salad I was served contained old lettuce, and when I opened the lid I could smell a bad smell emitting from the container. The cheese inside was covered in mold with visible mold on the top.

I asked for the 3 piece fried catfish to replace the salad, and when I got it it appeared to have soggy spots on it. I have never eaten catfish this way, and when I broke the parts I believe it may have been undercooked. It was black and wet in some spots as if it had not been properly turned while cooking.

I count at least 3 tables with food crumbs/parts on them including the table I’m sitting at, and I have been sitting here for over an hour.

The sweet tea was labeled as sweet, but I tasted no sugar in it. It also tasted old. I chose to drink something else instead the of sweet tea offered.

The men’s bathroom was closed and a sign said use woman’s bathroom, and the women’s bathroom’s toilet does not flush.

I never had this type of experience at a restaurant before, with such problems with the food and sanitation. However the girl at the counter was nice to me, but I did not raise all these concerns with her except for the issue with the moldy salad.

I’m worried that the operation at this restaurant poses a health hazard to the individuals who might eat here.

My husband, 18 month old daughter, and my youngest sister had Golden Chick from this location, Tuesday April 9th for dinner around 6pm. We went to bed with some runs. Wednesday morning(April 10th) my daughter and I felt the worst with vomiting, nausea, & diarrhea. Mind you, I am 35 weeks pregnant. Around 10:30am, I decide to go to the hospital for my symptoms and dehydration. I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia. They monitored my mild contractions I was having. Baby was good. About 4pm, they asked if I was feeling my contractions as much, and I said no. They pretty much subsided. I was released by 5pm. Braxton hicks started halfway home, or so I thought. They never went away. I quickly realized they were real contractions. I labored at home the rest of the evening, and by 4am(April 11th) they were so intense, so my husband and I were back at the hospital by 5:45am. They watched me in triage for an hour; 6am-7am. At 6am, I was 3cm. By 7, I was a 4, so they admitted me. By 9:30am, I was an 8 & 80-90% effaced. Got my epidural at 10:15. And our baby boy made his appearance at 11:50am at 35 weeks & 2 days.

Food poisoning caused me to go into preterm labor. The chicken tasted a little off, but didn’t think much of it. But it was undercooked. I trusted this restaurant to provide me with good clean fully cooked food. I’m highly disappointed at the standards they’ve come complacent to. Our family wanted to try this Golden Chick local. We have been to another's G.C. around Texas.We walked inside and weren't greeted at first. There was a problem with the cash register. One of the employees came out and said that the register was down. If we wanted to wait or leave 🤔 I said we'd wait a few minutes for register to restart. We'll 20 minutes later, two employees came out together to take our order and asked if we wanted to go through the drive-thru window. That register was working. I said, "Can't we give you our order and eat inside instead. So, by now, we're going through our ordered process with the cashier (employee) who had an order. Walked from the back told me the total price. I was going to pay with my credit card. He said we can only take cash 💸😳.I said to him, "You should have said that at the beginning of our order 😌 30 minutes or more, waiting for the register a meal 🍽 we left the Golden Chick without any food."
