I grew up in Hialeah and this restaurant was a staple however i moved years ago. I brought my mother here for lunch after a Dr. Appt on a weekday and arrived at 1015. The server was very kind, attentive, and accomodating. Apparantly, they dont start the lunch/dinner menu until 11. We were starving so just had from their breakfast menu. All breakfasts come with a cafe con leche and a tostada. I have a dairy intolerance, and i dont think theyre very well aware that butter is dairy, so i had to play it very safe with my order after speaking with the server. Even when i ordered the tostada without bitter, it arrived all buttered. Server was very kind and replaced it for me. They do not offer milk options aside from regular milk, so i got a plain cafecito and it was great. Now for the food.
Quite average. I ordered the steak and eggs, but mentioned i enjoyed palomilla steak more than a baby sirloin and the server was very qccompdating and made that change for me. It came with two sunnyside up eggs and fries. The steak was not very flavorful, it was quite dry and tasted freezer burnt. The fries were the highlight of the plate with how soft yet crunchy they were and the eggs were quite greasy (which i am not used to, but they tasted alright and i cannot complain when theyre advertised as friend eggs). I ended up making a sandwhich with my tostada and plated food. My mother got a vegetable omlette with fries. She said her omlete was tasty, but greasy. She also opted for a hot chocolate rather than coffee as we had already had coffee in the morning and she said it tasted great, though she would have prefered a milk other than whole. By the time my mother and i completed our meals, they had their regular menu out and i brought home pork chunks woth rice, beans, and maduros for my fiance and a tamale for myself. They were soft, but again, quite greasy. Sincerely, i believe this restaurant offers way too many food options without thinking about quality and freshness, just layering on seasonings. I also wish yhey focused on healthier options such as baking empanadas or other foods or using spray oils to assist with the grease component.
As for the vibe, they really try to maintian that old-school cuban high dining vibe. The staff was very kind to us. The patrons are what ruined it for me. I was gawked at by three men in a booth whistling and talling disrespectfully amongst themselves while i was standing at the bar speaking to my server asking where the restroom was. I sincerely do not miss this part of Hialeah in any way. I was wearing black pants and a large jacket š
Will i be back? Likely not. This reataurants food quality has gone down from what it used to be growing up. Fast forward to a few hours later and i regret my food choices for today with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDisappointed and Insulted ā Molina has Changed for the Worse Iām sad to say that what used to be a favorite local Cuban spot in Hialeah has gone downhillābadly. I went for lunch with my husband and two friends. My friend and I both ordered the baby churrasco (skirt steak) special. She received what she ordered. I, however, was brought what was clearly a palomilla steak (cube steak) instead. Iām a Miami native āI know the difference between a churrasco and a bistec palomilla! This wasnāt even a close call. I politely mentioned it to the server, not to make a fuss, but to avoid being charged the higher price for a dish I didnāt receive. Instead of fixing it, he doubled down and called the manager. Thatās when things got insulting. The manager claimed it was a skirt steak and said they ācut and pound it themselvesā because āthatās what Cubans do.ā Really? Funny, because my friendās skirt steak (which was correct) wasnāt pounded at all. Let me make this clear: you donāt pound skirt steak. Thatās not a thing. I wasnāt trying to make a sceneāI had already started eating and simply asked not to be charged the higher price. He offered to bring me another steak. Sir, I already started eating this steak I did not want another one just charge me correctly. But no that would be logical. He gave no apology, no courtesy, and no respect for a long-time customer. I ended up being charged full price for a dish I didnāt receiveā$5 more than the price of the bistec palomilla listed on the menu. The final bill was $148 before tip for lunch for four plus a $5 credit card fee. This restaurant used to feel like home. Now it just feels like a tourist trap with overpriced food, additional fees and no regard for customer service. Definitely wonāt be backāand Iāll be letting others know to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I came to this restaurant for lunch. We were never greeted and the staff that did "attend" to us were rude. We wait and stand at the door for about 2 maybe 3 minutes to be seated. Because, you know, there's a sign that says "please wait to be seated". Eventually, a waitress points at us to walk to the end of the restaurant and sit ourselves in a specific area. She tells us this from across the room as she is walking towards us. So we do as told and start to walk to where she pointed for us to sit. Halfway there and another waiter stops us telling us to sit on the opposite side of the room. So we follow the waiter to the opposite side of the room. My husband does not speak Spanish so he points back to where the first waitress told us to sit asking me to ask the waiter if we can sit at a booth instead of the tables he was taking us to. I then start to ask the waiter in Spanish if we can sit at a booth instead. He completely cuts me off not allowing me to even finish my question telling me no. He proceeds to ask me if I cannot see that the table my husband pointed at is reserved for 6 people. No, I did not see that the table was reserved because it is impossible to see through walls and bodies walking by. We did not want that specific booth, we just preferred a booth over tables. The waiter sat us down, gave us 2 menus and walked away. Still no greeting. No one offered us a drink, no one mentioned specials. Nothing. After explaining to my husband why we were seated at a table instead of a booth, we got up and left. Never have we ever received poor service at any restaurant we've visited. The employees at McDonalds are more welcoming than the employees at this restaurant were. Oh and parking is a pain. Good luck if you have a...
