Listen, if you want a “off the beaten path” Italian experience….look in Lake Dallas!!
I know, let me explain.
From the opening of the door to walk in to the opening of the door to leave, this was expert, pro level service. My family has lived in the Corinth area for years and if you’re from here, you know…that level doesn’t really exist here. There’s tons of professionalism, lovely ambiance etc. but not this. So we get sat and are almost immediately greeted by our waitress SHANNON! (If you don’t know, now you know. That’s the ONLY person you need to ask for when you go in) not only was she knowledgeable on the menu, but also the history and lineage of Don Camillo’s (epic history, btw. If you want your mind blown…ask about it. It made the whole experience so cool.)
So same as any other review I do, I will walk you through what we had and my thoughts on all of them plus honorable mentions to think of when you go.
Drinks: My wife had a local beer called Blonde Bombshell. A great local with a crisp finish that doesn’t sit too heavy. Great beer for an Italian joint with heavy food. I had a Negroni ….listen. I have had a handful of these in my life and these folks stole the show. It wasn’t overly strong and it sat well with the food using the sweet red vermouth. Highly recommend.
Appetizer:
We ordered the Fried ravioli. Texture and Appearance: top of its class. It was a beautiful dish. I can’t do too much with red sauce because if it is too aggressive, I get heartburn for the rest of the night. But they didn’t fail me! The appetizer comes with a jalapeño cream-a which pairs incredibly well with the spice of the sausage in the ravioli. If I HAD to knit pick, I feel like for the price, there could absolutely be more filling in the ravioli.
Hon Mention: I was able to see the Fried Calamari which looked stunning, if you want seafood GO GET IT!
Entrees:
I got the Carne Ravioli. An epic blend of sausage and beef in a pretty good size ravioli. I didn’t keep count but I believe there are 5-6 per dish but it is MORE than enough to fill you up. The sauce is amazing and the bolognese has just enough cream to fend off the acidity of the red sauce.
My wife got the Penne Sorrentino. Absolutely stunning. The meatball slices are still juicy even though they are sliced relatively thin and there is SOOOOOO MUCH cheese. Needless to say, she has lunch. Absolutely amazing.
With dinner we also got a basket of their bread with their house made Aoli….hear me out here. Aoli isn’t typically served with Italian bread. But do yourself a favor. The Aoli is so good, we left with a jar. A whole jar. They make it by the jar IN HOUSE and you can take it home. Buyer beware…it’s addictive.
They don’t even folly at kids meals. My son got chicken tenders and fries and both were outstanding. If your kiddos are picky with texture, Don’s is a win.
Dessert:
I left this up to our amazing waitress SHANNON!!! I gave her two options. She brought us the most incredible Tuxedo Cake I have EVER had. I don’t do sweets much anymore and I went ballistic with this one. Each layer is perfectly sized, the flavor is next level and it is one of those deserts that just tastes incredibly homemade.
That’s our review, at the request of Shannon AND my wife, we will be back in short order, if you need a great homey feeling, comfortable, delicious place for a cozy dinner or even a spectacular date night, don’t miss Don Camillo’s. This restaurant has to have more light on it. They 100% deserve it so go...
Read moreHey I’m here the calamari is absolutely wonderful. Very pricey for Miss match on quality! Somethings are great some things are amazingly not so great. I come back for the things that were good. Plus they sell wine, as well as some good mixed drinks. This experience will cause me to never come back again. I ordered the beef appetizer. There is truly probably an ounce of meat (For $14.99 ) I mentioned to the waiter this is crazy for the amount that it cost for , , would say not even an ounce of meat.. he got his manager. His manager came out and then proceeded to tell me there there is 4 ounces of meat there. I’m a nutrition major I know what 4 ounces of meat is ! That is not it! He would be pushing 1 ounce if that. He absolutely refused to make it right! Refuse to do anything about it! I refuse to make any kind of compensation at all. Put a little bit more meat on there anything….. The manager while writing this review did come back out and try to make it right. I appreciate that fact!!! He then showed me a scale of where the meat that is cooked for that is actually 3.5 ounces that is uncooked so when you cook the meat and then will reduce in weight. The Weight of cooked meat that is on your plate for $15 will be 1 to 2 ounces.
To be more helpful for someone that’s looking at reviews. Don Camilo‘s has very good items in some areas. Those areas that are very good caused me to return. They have more areas that are just OK. Their specialty drinks are very yummy! The calamari is a must! Do not get the beef appetizer you get maybe 1 to 2 ounces of cooked beef or 3.5 ounces of in uncooked beef , for $15. 1 to 2 ounces is maybe one or two bites.
I moved this review to two stars instead of one star. The one star I wouldn’t even have given in the beginning. But I moved it to two stars because the manager did try to come out and make amends and tell me about the prices. he got the scale out and showed me how much the meat actually weighed. I am not want to write reviews. But the amount of meat that was showed up for $15 was...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try Don Camillo on a coin flip decision and we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome! We both enjoyed everything about our experience from the drinks and appetizer, to the salad, soup and main course. He loves soup, but it has been his black cloud luck to end up having to send his soup back (or just puts up with it) because it’s lukewarm or cold. He’s had soup here twice and has been happy with it both times. The portions are more than generous (we took boxes both times) and well worth the price. We will be coming back to quite possibly eat our way through everything Don Camillo has to offer…just not all at once 😂. Thank you for the wonderful service, lovely atmosphere and delicious variety!
New review! My family and I came in for dinner and we, again, could not have been happier! The service we received from Diamond was outstanding! She checked on us and even asked about my husband’s soda( she noticed that it was getting thin on the mix) and offered him a new drink. She kept us updated on our bar drinks as well as our food. We did come in a tiny bit late (sorry!) but she NEVER rushed us! The only downside was having to listen to a couple that are, by their admission, regulars. Diamond showed grace and patience when dealing with them as they DEMANDED they be served another drink from the bar, even though last call had passed. Their reply to the “last call” having passed? “We are here all the time, just tell them and they will do it for us”. Not an exact quote, however if you are there SO much that you are recognized by the staff, then you should KNOW when last call is. Oh, and going into a restaurant 15 minutes before closing where your food doesn’t come out till after they close while being RUDE, terrible manners. This wasn’t so much “eavesdropping” as it was a “couldn’t help but hear”. They didn’t whine about it silently, they were raising their voices. Having said that, we will be back! Keep up the good work, Don Camillo and thank you to all their staff! You...
