I’ve been a long-time customer of Chu’s Express and have always given them raving reviews for their food and service. Unfortunately, all of that changed today.
On the evening of 7/25, I placed my usual order around 7:25 PM while heading home to Winston-Salem: the Hot Spicy Chicken Combination with plain fried rice (no vegetables) and a vegetable roll instead of a spring roll. This is exactly how I’ve ordered many times in previous orders, and the staff has always been careful to double-check with me.
When I got home and opened my order, I was shocked to find pork fried rice. I called immediately and gave my ticket number. The first person said, “Oh, when you say no vegetables, we just give pork fried rice without vegetables.” I explained again that I specifically asked for plain fried rice -no vegetables.
I was put on hold, and another person (who said she took the order) came to the phone. She offered no apology, just said I could bring the plate back and they’d remake it. I let her know I was already back in Winston-Salem and probably wouldn’t make it back before they closed. Her response? “Any day we’re open tomorrow or Sunday.” That was it.
This wasn’t a missing condiment, this was an order that I couldn’t eat, due to a clear dietary restriction. The lack of ownership, empathy, or effort to make it right was incredibly disappointing.
I’ve recommended Chu’s to so many people, and I’ve had nothing but positive experiences until today. But tonight, I felt dismissed and inconvenienced and that’s not the Chu’s I’ve known and supported all these years. Nor will it be the chus I drive 25 plus minutes for again.
That young lady cost you a longtime customer. A simply apology...
Read moreI have been frequenting Chu's Express on Eastchester for years. It is usually always good and sometimes even excellent. I guess you could say it is somewhat inconsistent. The last two times I've been there though most of the food has been just awful. For starters it has not been ready on time and I've had to wait up to 20 minutes after the stated pick up time. On one of the last visits they actually claimed they didn't have my order and that I must've called it into the wrong store. After I told them I used a contact on my phone, they mysteriously found the order but had not even started to prepare it. Tonight I ordered a dish with fried chicken. It is clear that they use pre-cooked chicken and then deep fry it. I've known that from the first time I ever ordered a chicken dish. It is usually good but tonight the chicken was so dry you literally could not chew it. We gave it to the dog and even she didn't seem to like it. I also decided to try the spareribs. They were so incredibly overcooked and dry that we threw them out. I didn't even insult the dog by giving them to her. I gave three stars because until recently it has been really good. If I based the rating on the last two visits only, it would be two stars at best. I will try one it more time and if it's anything like the last two experiences, I will not be back. To say the food has been bad these last two times is an understatement. I don't know if they have new cooks, but they certainly have some issues with the both the food quality and the service that they...
Read moreI wouldn’t trust a single dish on this menu. I ordered the chicken with cashew nuts, which I have ordered from over 50+ Chinese restaurants in my life, and it was so disgusting, it went directly into the trash. A better description would be broccoli and snow peas with cashew nuts. Seriously? If I wanted a bowl full of broccoli, I would’ve ordered it. Never in my 53 years have I seen broccoli put into this dish. It was the only flavor distinguishable and overpowered everything. Make whatever dish you want your way, that’s your right, but if you are going to change a classic dish like this to such an extreme, you need to put that information on the menu. Again, don’t trust a single item on this menu, I guarantee you will get something different than expected, and probably quite disgusting. Seriously, the flavor combination of the broccoli, snow peas and the brown sauce with the cashew nuts. Nasty! Huge waste of money, and I won’t even consider trying again a restaurant with a chef that has such an...
