First impressions matter, and Fat Boys made a great one! This small, local eatery immediately gave me high hopes because places like this tend to have amazing food—and I was not disappointed. The staff was friendly and welcoming, setting a warm and inviting tone for our visit.

One of the standout features for us was how kid-friendly they are. They had adorable dinosaur cups for the kids, which my little ones absolutely loved. The kids' menu was impressive, offering all the classics, including PB&J—a rare find in restaurants these days!

Now, let’s talk drinks. I ordered a regular Coke, and it was surprisingly delicious. It had this nostalgic taste, almost like something straight out of the 90s. I’ve never been so excited about a soda at a restaurant before—it was that good!

The Food For the main course, my husband and I both ordered the Fat Boy Original burger. When it arrived, I was immediately impressed by the size. But the flavor? It easily secured a spot in my top 5 burgers of all time. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The fries were just as fantastic—crispy, beautifully seasoned, and absolutely irresistible.

The Kids' Meals •Mac and Cheese (Daughter): This wasn’t the standard box mac and cheese. It looked homemade, with what I believe was gouda cheese. It was rich, creamy, and delicious—my daughter finished every bite. •Chicken Tenders (Son): These were big and perfectly cooked. He loved them, and while they came out hot, they cooled down nicely as he worked through his fries. •Kid Platter (Youngest): This was an impressive portion! The home fries were some of the best I’ve had—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The sausage was a huge hit too—my youngest devoured it, and my husband (who managed to snag a bite) commented on how flavorful and well-seasoned it was.

Final Thoughts What really stood out was the care they put into the kids' meals. The portions were generous, and the quality wasn’t compromised just because it was for kids. My children ate so much and genuinely enjoyed every bite.

Fat Boys has officially become a new favorite for our family. Amazing food, great service, and a kid-friendly atmosphere—it doesn’t get much better than that!...

Update 102123: Absolutely miserable experience. There were 2 servers overwhelmed, and the restaurant was 1/2 full. Placed my order for 2 burgers. Waitied 40 minutes with drinks, and with no sign of food or service got up to leave. Spoke to the server, nice older lady and told her this was taking too long... she said she put my order in and went to check on it... came back 5 mins later, and told me that my order was not even getting cooked yet. Left $5 for the drinks and tip and left. Allegedly, they were busy making margaritas and drink flights and couldn't be bothered to place the order in the point of sale system. Probably will go back at some point, but not soon. Oh, went to Sandston Bistro and got my burger and shake in 10 mins. At least someone was on their game today. Utterly disappointing.

Update 101522: Another awesome visit! Great food and service! They never disappoint.

Update: They're back! Fat boys is reopened and their mushroom swiss burgers is delicious. I also got their cole slaw, which was excellent and homemade. The price was about $14 with tax, so pretty reasonable considering they use portobello mushrooms, and truffle oil. Give them a shot, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and they were very happy to accommodate my special diet requests, so there was no bun at my request.

Breakfast: Went for a quick breakfast which was definitely an improvement from lunch. The gentleman serving was very quick and extremely pleasant. The food came out very well, had the Eggs Benedict which was customized without crabmeat due to my allergies. I also had a pancake and a slice of French Toast. My meal was excellent and the server never let my coffee fall below half a cup without offering a refill. He definitely earned a star, and I wish I had gotten breakfast the day before... it was worth every penny! Oh, and they seemed to be training a new server so I am hopeful that service times and attention will be more similar to my breakfast experience...

1st time here, read the good reviews before going, thought we would give it a try. Did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken Philly, instead of American cheese, I opted for cheez wiz and sauteed onions and mushrooms, delicious! The chicken was chopped, seasoned and flavorful! For me, I would have liked my sub roll toasted on the griddle more... but it was still good, next time, yes, next time! Loved the fries, and got a side order of fried brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts -AMAZING!!! A MUST TRY!!! I thought my nephew was going to lick the leftover sauce in the bowl on his order! The rest of my group ordered different items and they really enjoyed everything! From the shrimp Po boy, Wings, Bob Marley burger... I met the owner and he was very personable! Introduced himself, made himself known and visible! That was appreciated! You want to know that you are acknowledged as a paying customer, and they appreciate you being there! Loved all the TVs on the wall, on a Saturday afternoon, any college game you wanted to see was playing! Ms. Kita, our bartender/waitress was great! I liked that she came and talked to us, it gave a personal, engaging touch! Very nice! And her bartending skills were excellent! I always say, the mark of a good bartender is how good their drinks are, and her's were excellent! Because I will send a drink back, if it's not made properly! We decided to share the fried cookie dough and vanilla ice cream dessert...OMG!!! The first bite was fantastic!!!! Everything was so good, we were planning when we go back, what were going to order next time, while we were there! Don't let this gem go unnoticed... please go, give them a try!! Support your local businesses!!! Thank you FAT BOY'S for an excellent afternoon, a new place to visit with affordable pricing, atmosphere and great food! Sorry, forgot to take pictures...next time,...

My daughter and I were looking for place not far from home in New Kent. Fat Boys Bar and Grill had come up a few times in searches but we were never on that side of town and didn’t know if it was worth the drive. Upon first look outside of the building we weren’t expecting much…. Boy are looks deceiving! After being sat at a table and looking over the menu I was hopeful that we were going to be in for a treat. The menu is so good that I had a hard time picking one item to try. We went on a Sunday and were able to see the brunch menu which isn’t even the full menu. Everything from chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy (homemade not canned) to a motherclucker! I was having such a hard time deciding that I asked the gentleman that brought us menus ( I think he may have been the owner). He advised that they are known for their burgers so now I just had to narrow it down from 8 options instead of the entire menu. When the waitress came to take our order I had decided on the Gouda burger but that quickly changed to the PB&J burger. This was by far the best burger I’ve ever had in my life!!! The patties were seasoned perfectly, with a slight crispy crust on the edges and a juicy center. My daughter order the motherclucker, perfectly crispy with a yummy house sauce. The best thing though…. The FRIES! French fries are typically and afterthought at restaurants, not here. They are by far the most unique fries I’ve ever had. The only way I can describe them is a potato curl… perfectly seasoned, soft in the middle with a crunchy outside. Almost like a potato wedge and an Arby’s fry had a baby. Needless to say, we’ll be back. If you haven’t tried it, you should! It’s worth the drive!
