Pepper Steak Restaurant — Restaurant in Highland

I came here twice about a couple years ago and it was really good but recently I came and it’s under new management and it’s going downhill when we got there the water was leaking from raining inside half the restaurant, the “waitress” which is the owner ignored us and called another “waitress” which was her significant other and he took a long time bringing the menu and taking our orders when he did the food is bland both for Mexican and American food,taste frozen and straight out the can. When we order dessert I ask him to add to the order and he insisted if I had enough money to even order more on top of going around us multiple times and having some guy stand next to the door and ask everyone for their receipt I ask the waitress politely let me please pay so I can eat in peace as they were making me feel uncomfortable. The place is pretty beat up and dirty,restroom out of service and prices are a bit high for portions and taste, I payed got my receipt and left with my family as I needed to really use the restroom before getting on the road when I get out the store of where I used the restroom the “waitress/owner” came in her vehicle with a stick and phone and said a bunch of cursing in Spanish talking about I stoled food and the dining ware didn’t let me talk and I told her first the dinning ware I put on top of the counter table as you guys take a long time to even come to the table and ignore people when it’s not even packed at all and she continues with no no you stole etc I show her my receipt and she says no it doesn’t show up on my part etc and I state again I gave the card to the waitress and she gave me a receipt with the amount of the total and I left as a normal person and she says well it didn’t get charged and she started recording me and my family saying rat rat and I again told her so I’m responsible for making sure your waitress charged me ? I have to ask and wait for me to be able to leave after the guy by the door checked my receipt and then she starts saying the cops are right there and they take you and you’ll go to ice as I’m a Citizen of the United States so I told her call the cops over here and she then says go to my restaurant and pay and I’m irritated because I payed !!!!! On top of the bad service and not so good food so I go to her restaurant and tell her to bring the waitress over and she says “he is gone “ can’t like what type of bs is this so I see she has a camera and tell her show the cameras so you see what really happen and she didn’t want to saying it doesn’t show where I pay but does to everything else and that I can’t see only she can since it’s her restaurant that’s when I had it and left she chased behind me and screams cops help help...

Rock solid food and friendly service. We literally drive by this place every day and I keep telling my wife we need to try it this place. We finally did just that and went and grabbed an early dinner. I feel like there is no need to address what you most likely know about this place if you've driven by. It's an old-school place, no-frills decor and has a very home-like feel. Very clean and slightly dated this place really has a charm to it that says it's been here for awhile and it does what it does and it does it well. The menu has a diner feel but also feels more refined and expanded than the typical greasy spoon. They offer daily soups and specials along with the classics you'd come to expect from a staple like this place. The food is super fresh, well cooked and truly stays within the lines. I tried the philly cheese steak and chili verde soup and my wife got a patty melt. All the food was really delicious. The chili verde soup was really surprising and had huge chunks of savory pork in it. The philly was super solid with fresh beef and peppers and even the fries were great. My wife's patty melt was fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful and kept the place clean and the vibe pretty relaxed. This place is obvioualy a staple in this area as it was the first place we were told to go eat at when we moved here. They do all you can eat specials on certain days and I'm sure they have a lot more to offer, but for our first visit it was great. If you want fresh, good size portions, fair prices and home made food. Check it out. If you like culinary tours throughout the world eating different cultures cusines and diving into the things we aren't used to here; probably not the place your looking for, but you'll still find something really good to eat here. Was a little shocked to see indoor seating during covid but happy to be able to sit inside. Not complaining. Although, during my time there, I noticed some kind of worker with a badge that took the manager to sit down and I overheard them talking about distancing so I'm assuming she was some kind of safety employee.

My first time here so I ordered the signature pepper steak sandwich. The meat was good but I wish there was more cheese. Had to rally look for any signs of cheese. I asked as soon as she brought it out and she told me she would have to charge for more...but there was barely any on it. Whatever. Then my ketchup was out and of course the server is nowhere to be seen to ask for another.

Then as I'm about to pay, the server goes over to clean a table that was dirty from before I even arrived. I noticed a lot of the tables were not cleaned. Seemed odd. I know they were short staffed but the tables are blocked off also.

I actually really like the steak fries and the meat in the sandwich was good but the other things left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. I might have to try again for a better review its just that I'm hardly ever in this area. Will be awhile before I return. And then I'll have to be in the mood to focus on it again to change this review so...i guess that's why they say first impressions are so...
