My original review of this place: Great local place for a beer and a bite to eat. The place is always clean, the crowd always friendly, the food always simple but good, and the beer is ALWAYS cold. All the bartenders I have met that have worked here over the years I have been a customer have all been notably friendly, attentive, and professional. The prices are some of the best in the area especially happy hours and on Wednesday that is all day!
Revised review 11/27/17. Sometime since the last time I was here and today ownership of this place has changed hands. All the things that made this dive thrive are gone. I did not see one single solitary improvement despite all the changes already made or in progress. The new owners of this place must never have been told "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Apparently the things that needed to be fixed in no particular order were: the new jukebox they just got wasnt adequate. It needed to be smaller and more pink. The new jukebox also needed to have a significantly smaller number of tunes available to play than the last one because they come from the internet and we all know the limited availability of music online. The food specials had to go. The regulars who enjoyed the homemade chili or bbq pork should be happy with what is offered now on the menu. Now when you are hungry and stop here you get to pick from a list of foods that are all fresh & frozen up to the minute you order them. And dont worry about hearing your name called when it's ready. You'll know by the beeping you hear. Sounds exactly like my smoke alarm at home. There are a lot of smaller changes that most people wont notice but the one thing that EVERYONE will notice. It is the single most important part of any bar experience. That would be the bartender!! Gone are the smiling friendly faces of the girls who greeted you when you came through the door. Gone are the bartenders that remembered your name and order. Gone are the seemingly endless laughs that were served up by bartenders with a genuine personality and a sence of humor. Now you have a inattentive, lazy, inexperienced person who must be the owners daughter. No one else would be as lackluster person and still get hired to tend bar here or anywhere else. Even my girlfriend remarked that all the other changes could be tolerated if Lacey was still working here. And since they fixed all that instead of the mens room toilet the only other thing that had to be changed was the prices. Now instead of spending a few bucks after work for a couple beers, frozen til its fried food and a game of pool you can pretend to live on snob hill by paying import beer prices for a bud light. It is truly a picture perfect example of ghetto fabulous on display in San Bernardino. Best advice when you think of visiting is to try the Frog, or The Office, or the...
Read moreThis place is great! Don't be swayed by lesser reviewers who use self defeating statements like W Bear, who was in jail long enough to leave a very detailed review. Hats off to you, good sir. 👏👏Anyway, on to Candy's...
Today was my 4th visit to Candy's and I plan on returning many more times in the future. The first time I crawled in off the street, the bar tender greeted me like a regular. She was very nice to me and we had a great conversation about the bar, it's history, and it's future direction. She even remembered me the next time I came in, so kudos to you, you wonderful lady!
As far as the bar service, I've never waited for any considerable amount of time to be served. They're attentive and on point. Other bars can learn a thing or twelve.
The bar itself is pretty chill. Beer, wine, mixed drinks, and food. Simple enough to always satisfy your expectations. The burgers are great and they make them the way you want them. Today, I brought in a crowd of about 20 and not one was disappointed with the food...or the drinks.
They have one of the new jukeboxes that connect to the internet, so there is no limit to the variety you have available to you. Classic rock, 90's hip hop, country...they have it all. Props. 👏
The new owners just spruced up the bathrooms, which was definitely needed. Bravo!
Running low on cell phone power? No problem. This bar even has a cell phone charging station right at the bar. You can create a photographic and social media historical account of your visit and not worry about missing a single selfie or a picture of your beer to make your friends jealous. #WishYouWereBeer
Candy's also had a nice area in the back where you can have out. IT'S HUGE! (That's what she said.) There is a stage where they often have live performers (when is RaDIUM playing?) or a karaoke DJ for your drunk friends.
Parking? If you have trouble finding a spot, fix yourself.
And, by the way, this quesadilla kicks *.
...don't do...
Read moreWhile on vacation over the holidays this place was recommended by a friend. It sounded like a nice enough place but I was very disappointed when I went there. My first impression was, What kind of place is this? From the outside in the dirt parking lot it looks like an old house. Once you get inside you realize that it once was. The interior is so small that it seemed crowded with only a dozen people there at the time. The service was ok but if you're not a cute guy or a regular don't expect to be a priority to the bartender. The back patio is huge and has all the charm of a trailer park yard sale. Tables and chairs dont match and everything is covered in a layer of dirt. While sitting out back, the bartender came out to see me, not to see if I needed another drink, its because she thought I left without paying and came looking for me. The people in this neighborhood must have no other place to drink, or have very low standards of quality or else this place would have closed its doors a...
