Tavern On The Lake — Restaurant in Hightstown

I never do this in that I was in Customer Service for 30 years so I always tip really well and I’m very polite, etc. however, I am compelled to share the horrible experience we had there last night.

I will Preface this with the fact that they were very busy. However, the prices were ridiculous. I decided to have a steak sandwich and it was $17.95so I quickly got away from that and ordered a steak wrap Which was $13.95. I don’t have an issue with the price of $13.95 however it was tiny cut in half, it did come with fries. However, it was very greasy. This is where Service comes into play. There were no napkins on our table Nor were we given any napkins prior to our meal. So I sat there with oily greasy hands throughout the meal.

Furthermore, I ordered a Sprite and never got it for the meal so I ended up drinking ice water which sucked. I never got the Sprite so I was done eating and just didn’t bring it up because I felt sorry for the young lady that was serving us because she was overwhelmed so I don’t blame her per se.

However, I will not go back there. The bill was ridiculous for two people for tavern food And again don’t have an issue with money if everything is as it should be or even close, but it was so far from that, that we will not be going back there!

My boyfriend and I went here on a Wednesday night for my birthday for dinner. It was not busy AT ALL (now I know why.) There were only two other tables besides us occupied in the dining room. Our waiter was horrible. He dumped our appetizer (chips and salsa with guacamole, salsa and guac were good but the chips were kind of gross) on the table and disappeared. It took forever to get our food. We both ordered lemon chicken. It was extremely underwhelming and kind of rubbery and the only thing you could taste was lemon, no other seasonings. We asked for some grated cheese, bread, and a beer. The waiter brought the grated cheese but not the bread nor the beer. When we saw him again we reminded him about what we asked for. He said he'd be right back with it. He came back about 11 minute's later with the beer but no bread.. Again... He finally came back with the bread when my boyfriend was finished with his meal. At that point I was about halfway through my meal and realized that my chicken was raw in the middle. I pointed this out to our waiter and he just shrugged and walked away. By far the WORST birthday dinner I have ever had! Wasn't expecting anything fancy, just a decent meal. I wouldn't feed a starving dog...

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Worst place I've ever been to. I was recommended here by the hotel I'm staying at to come here and from the beginning it was a total disaster. My boyfriend and I ordered BBQ chicken strips and bacon cheese fries for an appetizer. When we received it, the chicken was cold and they didn't give us any ketchup for the fries. Couldn't call for the waitress because she didn't tell us her name and no one else is around. 20 mins into the appetizer after we've eaten all the fries, the lady comes and asks if we want ketchup. Not even a second later, our food comes and my burger is missing bacon, falling apart, and the bun is stale. My boyfriend ordered a Reuben (recommended by the waitress) which also had stale bread, and sour tasting meat. Another 20 mins later, after we've stopped eating and were sitting there for about 10 mins, she comes over and asks if we are okay. We say no and that the meal was terrible and we don't want it to go. After awful appetizers and two uneaten entrees, cue argument with management over the bill for almost 45 minutes!
