Doña Paty's — Restaurant in Highwood

My husband and I have driven past Doña Paty's a couple of times and decided to try it tonight. Boy, are we glad we did! The food was wonderful. We started dinner with the fresh-made tortilla chips and green salsa (delicious!) followed by amazing guacamole (chunks of avocado, tomato with fresh cilantro , onion and lime, with just a hint of spice). My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and I had the beef fajitas. We loved our entrees. Mine had mounds of perfectly grilled steak, red and green bell pepper and onions. His three enchiladas were stuffed with stewed chicken and the green sauce was very flavorful without being too spicy. The servings were so generous we both needed a box to take the leftovers home. We love Doña Paty’s! This family run restaurant is fabulous. We were sad when Cafe Petopia closed, but are now so glad that we tried the new owners. The fresh flavored waters are to die for, especially the cucumber. I’m addicted to it. It is that refreshing! Everything is made from scratch and to order, what a difference from the other local options for Mexican food in Highland Park/Highwood. Our daughter loves the steak tostada and rice, my husband the enchiladas and pozole and I love the fajitas, especially with the addition of the marinated habanero peppers! We stopped in for lunch based on the high Google maps ratings. It's a small place with under 10 tables but also outside seating. The food was great. Tacos come in homemade soft corn tortillas which are doubled so the bottom doesn't split when you fold them. I had the ground beef and a chicken with chipolte seasoning taco. Both were well filled and tasted great. My wife had a burrito and loved it. The owner was present and talking with everyone to make sure everything was well received.
