Just about every time we are close to Hinckley, Tobies is a must stop. For brunch I ordered their French Toast. It was made of a sweet dough of some sort with cinnamon swirls in it, then dunked in an egg batter, fried to a beautiful golden brown. It a as served with butter and maple syrup. The only thing I can think of to make it absolutely perfect is a cream cheese/maple or cream cheese/cinnamon condiment cup to use in the event someone doesn't like maple syrup. No stop at Tobies would be complete without a stop in their bakery. Their selection of rolls, breads & other goodies leaves me wanting to take one of everything home, but I always get the carmel roll to go. Later, after I'm home the carmel roll is warmed in the microwave & a pat or two of butter melted on the top of the roll & I savor each bite. If you are ever within 20 miles of Hinckley, make the time to stop at Tobies, you won't regret it!

Only a hour & 15 min drive from Mpls. & St. Paul, Tobie's Restaurant is the place to go to get out of the city. Good food with a decent & friendly atmosphere! It is a great halfway point between Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Duluth! Make a pit stop here while you're traveling, and you won't to be disappointed! Stop by their restaurant for some American cuisine/home cooking. And find out why their bakery is so well known! Any of the stuff I encountered were always friendly, engaging & helpful! No one stares at you like you were an Alien from a different planet.. (some customers did, but that's their problem!) Whenever you feel like leaving the city, for a day Trip? Make sure you take the time to stop at Tobie's! They also offer: Car Wash. Gas. Ice cream (mini) shoppe. Caribou coffee.

An update five years later- Three stars for an average breakfast. The cinnamon roll is much better than the Carmel rolls. Neither are as good as Cinnabon. The decor improved from my last visit. Do not even bother with this place for dinner. Based on recommendations from friends we tried Tobies for dinner, since we came to the nearby Casino for a concert. Many raved about the rolls and food. I had the meat loaf and could only eat a few bites. It was one of the worse meals I have had in some time. My son had the tuna melt and it was terrible. We thought the rolls must be better and we tried a cinnamon roll for desert - it was fine and I would have rated two stars because of the rolls, but then we took two cinnamon and two caramel rolls home and our family all had the same reaction - not so great, not worth the price. Cinnabon is far better and so much tastier.

German Reuben sandwich had barely any meat on it. Wrong kind of bread.Sauerkraut should of been on it but had coleslaw on it. Nacho rio had ordered it to eat they packed it to go. Was not as did described. No cheese, no salsa, 4 jalapeños barely any onions and so barely anything like it should of been. Mushroom Swiss burger barely any mushrooms on it. Tasted like a cheap burger from the freezer. Food and drinks took a very long time. Waiter said they were under staffed and had too many to serve. If that’s the case why are they seating everyone! We were not the only ones to complain. Other tables were unhappy also. Table next to use waited a half hour to get there ticket. Which they said food wasn’t even cooked all the way. Will never go again. Will never refer a person to that place. They need to review how they run the whole place.

Absolutely the BEST fried cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had!!! The ones with the nuts on top. I’ve been trying for years to find a donut that resembled the one the of a bakery I worked at when I was in high school. 13 years later I’ve finally found it!!!! But that’s not why you should stop. You should stop because it is absolutely the best place to stop on the way between Duluth and the twin cities. The restaurant connected to the bakery is also a must try for breakfast. My dad said they have the best burgers but the breakfast was so great!!! Also the gift shop is just filled with unique stuff. I’d love it more but I will say it’s a bit overpriced. Ok a lot over priced, but that’s fine, just spend your money on the donuts and rolls!!!!

This is a two sided place. A restaurant and a bakery. The restaurant has a ton of different options. On this particular day I tried the chicken salad sandwich. It was served on a very large croissant. The sandwich itself was pretty good. Instead of fried I subbed a cup of the soup of the day, which happened to be chicken wild rice and that was phenomenal! In the bakery, they're famously known for their sticky cinnamon rolls. That's not necessarily my cup of tea. So I go with some of the donuts they make there. It's all fresh and reasonably priced. The location is great. It's right next to the off ramp if you're going north on 35. Even if you're going south, it's still easy to get to.
