We had been excited to try the public house in Hinesburg for quite some time and finally found a convenient time to stop in. The host was kind upon our entrance and we were seated quickly. Despite high prices for basic dishes (i.e. 14 dollars for 6 chicken wings) we were excited by the variety the menu had to offer. From that point, however, quality in service declined quickly. We ordered drinks, an appetizer, and our only entree during our servers initial check with the table. While our drinks came to the table promptly, we found ourselves waiting upwards of 45 minutes and seeing two parties that had been seated after us receive both their appetizers and meals before asking the host if there had been an oversight in sending our order to the kitchen. We were informed that we would hear from the waitress shortly regarding the status of our order. After around ten minutes of hearing nothing, we asked if we might be able to simply pay for our drinks and forego the food. We were then informed that our meals were in the process of being prepared and should be right out. After waiting ample time beyond that, we requested that the food be prepared for take out. It was not until the check was delivered that our server came to check in on us and provide a status update, or any kind of explanation for the delay. We were told that staff on hand was limited in comparison to the crowd. This is a very real and very relatable stressful experience as a restaurant worker, however, provided the service we saw other parties receive, this did not seem authentic. An exhausted and overworked staff as a whole is a reality in many cases and very understandable. Wait staff pushing blame entirely onto the kitchen in hopes to cover a mistake is not. Had the meal we took home been exceptional, our overall experience may not have seemed so terrible. Finding entirely overcooked food upon arrival at home, however, certainly did not make any part of the evening feel better, financially...
Read moreI can’t say enough accolades about this gem!! My husband 2 year old pup- Golden Retriever Perry and I were driving back home over an hour away and were starving and took note of this restaurant and saw they have a porch and quickly looked up the hours and saw it was 5 mins before closing! My husband ran up to the door inquired if we could still have dinner here and bring our pup in and they said of course!! Our dinner from the service to food was impeccable our server Bronwen rocked the service including bringing a bowl of water with small ice cubes to Perry. The food choices were solid I had the grain bowl and added local chicken and hubs had the Diablo pasta both were tasty and the cocktail list was plentiful. My husband had a Moscow mule which when delivered to our table by Alex which later we learned was the manager he broke off a piece of a tree branch and gave it to us which when smelled was citronella- natural bug deterrent!! The Mule was one of the best I’ve had you could tell the ingredients were fresh and local and not chemically tasting. Alex said there’s half price burger night Mondays and they stay open a bit later on Thursdays. So I’d say this place is a winner especially since well mannered leashed dogs are warmly accepted. Thank you to the Chef,...
Read moreThe Public House has been a favorite of mine for years. When I used to live in the Middlebury area, I would keep the Public House in mind for more special occasions just because the drive made going there a bit more of an outing. Now that I live in Hinesburg (in the middle of a pandemic) they have become a regular go-to for me for curbside pickup. I love the fact that I can order online and pick up out front. That process has been very efficient for me so far. The $7 to-go drafts and to-go cocktails (variable prices) are a great bargain. When you consider a 32 ounce beer or cocktail, quality fries, and a quality burger only sets you back maybe $20-25 on burger night, that's a heck of a deal! One of my other favorite menu items are the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. I remember when these were only an occasional special. Now that they are a regular menu item, I like to add them on to my order once in awhile, especially if I'm introducing someone to the Public House for the first time. I believe the Public House is currently open for indoor seating, but I'm personally not ready for that yet, but I will certainly continue to rely on them for quality takeout as long as we're both here in town, and look forward to the day that I can bring a group of friends in for...
