Three couples, each couple on their own check, and a single person on her own check ordered food on Tuesday (10/2/18) night. The waitress forgot one of the salads and when reminded of it she smiled, walked away and never brought the salad. The wings my wife and I ordered were not good. The main problem was that all of the food was served over an hour and 15 minute time period, the last item being a pizza with the works. The various stupid excuses offered by the two less than capable waitresses were: 1. They have lots of pizza orders. 2. Our table had 4 checks and the pizza would have come out sooner if it was all on one check. 3. The bulk of the food was delivered to our table over a half hour time period because there were 4 separate checks at our table. Because it was the works pizza it's a wet pizza and that takes longer to cook. 5. When asked why 2 tables of people who arrived after we arrived got their pizzas before our table got its pizza an hour and 15 minutes after it was ordered, one of the less than capable waitresses just smiled and said they were sooooo busy. No apology or compensation was offered by the less than capable waitresses. I'm told the 1 hour and 15 minute pizza tasted okay but wasn't worth an hour and 15 minutes wait. I'm from out of town and wouldn't be able to patronize Karvela's again anyway, but the other 6 diners are locals who were mad as hell about the hour and 15 minute pizza, the forgotten salad even after a reminder to the waitress and the stupid excuses offered by the less than capable waitresses. The locals have already started spreading the bad word about Karvela's. If you go anyway, even after reading this review, just plan on spending the entire afternoon or the entire evening being BS'd by the staff and possibly not getting everything...
Read moreI can't honestly speak about the food, what others had looked good. I can only assume it is good from the other reviews, and why we ventured there for our first time.
I'm in business, and I know running a business in a small town like Hogansville can be tough, both from staffing to revenue concerns. I hope this place does well, and if they are expanding maybe so.
Our food was delayed, about double the normal wait time. The waitress explained what happened, etc. she did fine with that. But that was it, nothing to help better the situation. While we waited, we saw a roach crawling around on the table top cover adjacent to us. I get it, these things can fly in when folks enter. Maybe that's all there is to it. The inside of the restaurant is better than I expected, someone had an artist touch. The floors need attention imo. I get they are old shop floors, but they are also chipped and cracked and porous. Even if sealed, they are hard to get clean. There was food on the floor throughout. The younger staff waited around a lot, but no one seemed to care about that stuff. It's an open kitchen, all good there and I love the concept, but you also are signing up for extra attention in that area. The walls and floor in that area don't look good at all.
We waited almost an hour, and left before our entree was ready. We had not planned on that long of a stay and ran out of time. I think a manager should be there at all times, and if one was you could t tell it.
I love pizza, and I'm not picky. I hope what I am saying in this review will give the owners actionable information on what our...

Fried Pickles - They went from having the best fried pickles to the worst. They tasted like grease, the pan was covered in grease. They smelled like grease. They almost made me throw up. The breading was thick, not the lite crispy version they are known for.
Craft Beer - They were out of both craft beers (Line Creek & Wild Leap)
3 Dumpster Smell - it’s obvious they dumped their floor wash water at the end of the patio 3’ from where we were setting - see photo. It smelled like an old dumpster. I don’t need to money to get the smell of dumpster as I eat!
I complained to our waitress, she said yes I’ve told them they be dumping it in the grass. At which I said “no, you shouldn’t be dumping it in the grass because that’s where the kids play, you should be dumping it into the sewer because it’s waste”. The smell was disgusting.
On top of that on two separate occasions, a small child went up to the puddle and was about to stomp in it. We told both no stay back from the water, one of the kids started crying. Little did he know we were doing him and his parents a huge favor.
This is basic stuff, train your staff. It takes time to build a reputation...
