Rio Acai — Restaurant in Holladay

I’m so addicted to Rio Açaí, I may be single-handedly keeping them in business. ;) This new location in Holladay was much anticipated and has lived up to the hype. Staff is friendly and capable, the vibe and decor of the location itself is so welcoming and comfortable, and the menu is TOP, as they say in Brazil. Honorable mention must be made of the bathroom - normally not something one might review, but this restroom is worth a visit to see the “copacabana” tile and note the fun design elements that were incorporated there. It all combines to point to the underlying principle: Rio Açaí has figured out how to provide excellence both in the customer experience and with their product. Pro tip: be sure to get cheese bread with your açaí. It’s the best Brazilian cheese bread AND açaí I’ve found on this continent since living in Brazil. :) Don’t miss out on this place....

Fabulous service, great atmosphere, but I’m there for the açai bowls and that’s what lacked a little bit. There are a number of comparable places around town so you have to stand out. The price is better here than the other places, but the portion is also way less even the largest size, and they put the large portion in a bowl and then they fill that bowl up to the top so you can’t ever mix anything in it otherwise all the granola or fruit will fall out. Beaumont does it right because they put it in a larger bowl so you don’t have to worry about spilling all the stuff out the sides, which I think is smart. The açai definitely seems more authentic than the other places, but I wouldn’t say it taste better. I’ve been to this location a few times and love the bowls and location. I went in today on my lunch and was wanting something a light so I asked for a small build your own, but in a medium bowl because I was needing to eat on the go and didn’t want it to spill. They took my order, like normal, and then at purchase was charged for a medium size due to “charging per bowl not amount”. The employees were not only rude about the price difference, they were unapologetic when I expressed that it would have been nice to know about that policy at the start of the order.
