Long but HONEST review.
Came in tonight and ordered each an Enchilada and Mole plate, queso, and a slice of cheesecake.
I ordered ahead by calling in. I was immediately placed on hold without getting to say hello, which I can understand some, since when I got there it seemed busy. After arriving when I was asked to, I couldn't decide whether or not to take the drive-thru. I was confused because it seemed like more of a sit-down restaurant based on most of the review photos. I decided to go inside. It feels like a remodeled early 2000s Wendy's.
When I went to the counter and confirmed my order, I asked what the largest sized T shirt they had was. They had no long sleeves, so I asked about the short sleeves. I was told the largest one they got sent was a few XLs from the company for employees, and what they had left was from passing them out to the crew--which I find really odd, because if they're selling T shirts in store with a posted sale sign, I don't expect said shirts to be leftovers from what ever the crew didn't take to wear.
I paid $36 and some change and I'll be honest, I've had better Mexican food from taco bell.
It was by far the most disappointing meal I've had in a while.
The beans on both plates were runny and wet. It's a miracle the bags the take out trays come in are wax lined, because the bag was FULL of bean water. Aside from the wetness, the beans had a bit of saltiness to them and were the best part of the plate itself. The rice was overcooked and fell into tiny mushy crumbs. It had no flavor. Finding a couple peas/corn here and there made it seem like they weren't actually supposed to be inside the rice and somehow managed to make it there. I wasn't a fan of this restaurant's mole sauce either. I'll admit I have not had many moles, and don't want to pass too much judgement on it specifically, but to me it was quite acidic and tasted heavily of cinnamon. It reminded me more of a sweet and sour chinese sauce than other moles I've had in the past.
The queso was super good. Decent flavor, was nice and smooth. Was definitely the highlight of the entire meal overall. We did not get chips there, so I can't review them.
The slice of cheesecake was not too great. Nothing special at all. It was oddly runny, and seemed to be set in only -some- places. Either like it wasn't mixed well enough, or was sitting out while my order was being made. It tasted a bit like the Philadelphia no bake cheesecake tub but with more cream cheese. The oreos added nothing at all to the cake itself.
Overall, I won't be returning to this restaurant. It was not worth the near $40 I paid for it when I could have went somewhere closer for cheaper and better. The reviews are really misleading, I'm not sure how this restaurant has a 4.6 star.
They should focus on being either a drive thru only or a sit down only. It seems too busy and too disorganized to run both at...
Read moreWhen I say we have to remind ourselves that we have have food and home and we don't need to go and get Real Taqueria, I mean it!! WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! The food is phenomenal. The queso is out of this world and their tacos are 10/10. They are a family run restaurant that take pride in what they do and are always SO kind and inviting. They actually like time off for the holidays and give their employees much needed R&R. We went to get food one time and they were closed for their cousins wedding... so sweet that all their family members were able to be there!
Now onto the BIGGEST WOW OF ALL! We hired Real Taqueria to caterer our "welcome dinner" for 25 ppl for our wedding a few weeks ago. I told you we love this place! They were beyond responsive and professional throughout the whole catering conversation and process. They answered all my questions and it was truly so seamless. We were getting married and hosting our welcome party at a cabin in Sundance and it can be a tad difficult to find. Day of, they were about 45 minutes behind the scheduled delivery time so I figured they were lost. Turns out I gave them our WEDDING date, not our welcome party date....... what I ding dong I was!!! I think they were more heartbroken than I was. I couldn't believe I made that mistake (they even confirmed the date with me at least 3x). They felt awful (which they absolutely shouldn't have) and wanted nothing more than to make this experience special for us. I was fully prepared to have to go get some take out pizzas and of course still pay Real Taqueria for my mistake BUT they offered to jump on the grill asap and have all our food made and delivered to us within 2 hours (Sundance was about an hour from Real Taqueria). We agreed (and felt like we owed them our life) and THEY SAVED THE DAY and made it happen!! And get this THE OWNER HIMSELF came and delivered our meal at 9:30pm!!! Like what?!!!? It was already such a HUGE ask for them to drive that far in the first place but to deliver that late, on such short notice was unbelievably kind and was truly JAW DROPPING service. We wanted nothing more than to share our love for this Mexican restaurant with our loved one and it was 100% worth the wait. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH for your hospitality towards us, dealing with my massive mess up and confirming our care and love for Real Taqueria!!! We are...
Read moreReal Taqueria in Salt Lake City is hands down one of the best spots for authentic Mexican food in the area. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant has a simple, no-frills vibe that lets the food speak for itself, and it definitely delivers.
One of the standout items for me was the Al Pastor Burrito. The pork was perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of pineapple to balance the savory and sweet flavors. It was so satisfying, and every bite was packed with flavor. If you’re into hearty and flavorful burritos, this one’s a must-try.
For something a bit lighter, I tried the Nopalitos Burrito, which combines cactus and eggs. The texture was unique and refreshing, and the flavors were bold and delicious. I also got a side of the Carne Asada Nachos, and they did not disappoint—loaded with meat, beans, veggies, and all the good stuff you want in nachos.
The chips and queso were another highlight. The queso was rich and creamy, making it the perfect start to the meal. The vegetarian options are also worth mentioning, with customizable veggie tacos that are full of flavor, so there’s something for everyone.
The drive-thru is super convenient, especially when you’re in a rush, though it can get busy during peak hours. The interior space is clean and welcoming, and I loved how easy it was to place my order and feel like a part of the community.
Overall, Real Taqueria offers some of the most authentic and satisfying Mexican food in Salt Lake City. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a meal with family, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious, flavorful...
