Cheung Sheng Chinese is a great little restaurant in the heart of old downtown Hollister. The restaurant and seating area are fairly small but the taste of the food is big!
I phoned in a large order for pickup for the family. First, the call was extremely fast. The person who took my order was pleasant and took down my order perfectly. He stated the food would be ready in about 20 minutes. I arrived a few minutes early and only waited 5 minutes while my order was finalized. My order was bagged and the server added about 10 fortune cookies, a few small containers of sweet & sour sauce, a few small containers of spicy chili sauce, and a few packets of soy sauce.
Once home, our food was prepped and everything I ordered was included and still hot.
Our favorite dishes from Cheung Sheng include Prawns with Honeyed Walnuts, Special Orange Chicken and their Chow Mein. Everything we ordered was so good including the appetizers.
A quick note: the menu and prices on Facebook (Cheung Sheng doesn't have a website) are out of date. I've included some pics of their current menu and pricing.
The items listed on the menu under Chef's Special recommendations are very good.
Really good food and great service....
Read moreIf you don't like something because it doesn't taste like normal or taste off, say something immediately, don't be like us and try to be polite and wait to say it discretely because they'll still charge you for the food you didn't eat even after you tell them it wasnt good at all. They'll come over and tell you loudly, when you're trying to be quiet about it because you feel bad, that you should have said something at the beginning, even though we are still sitting there so the issue can still be resolved, there's nothing he can do now even though they took the whole plate back and still made us pay for it with no resolution. Was told if I said something at the beginning, they could have switched out the plate, I don't understand why that still couldn't have been done since the bad meal was already paid for and taken back in full minus the 1 shrimp I tried and spit into my napkin!
All this to say I'm going to start to say something from the jump now if it taste bad, no more feeling bad for restaurants or if the tables next to us hear the...

Meal came to $80 with tip which is typical for Chinese food, we always over order but always have leftovers for later that night and I don't mind pain a little more for quality food and it definitely was call of duty and very tasty.
Waitstaff was a little "green" and never offered us hot tea or water. I had to ask for it and didn't get it until we reminded them when we asked for togo boxes at the end of the meal.
Also, the processing of checks and getting together the to go orders is right in the middle of the restaurant as you walk in and are eating that's all you see and hear. The set up is kind of distracting and in fact every table and the convo seems to be on display. Maybe some more plants and dividers for the kitchen/cashier/togo prep/diners' tables. Seems like it would help with the acoustics...
