La Catrina Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Hollister

5/10/24 Well, my wife went to dinner with a friend here, and what a difference a year made. She ordered a quesadilla with shrimp. Now you wouldn't expect to find the shrimp tails inside the quesadilla, but there they were. And they had been cut off the shrimp and just tossed inside. Speaking to the waitress didn't help. The manager stood at the bar and watched the scene unfold after she asked to speak to him, letting the waitress try once more to explain why this would happen, and why they weren't going to do anything about it. When she finally demanded to speak to the manager, he came over, gave a half-hearted apology. When she pointed out that he could at least remove the charge for shrimp (which she paid extra for), he acted as if it was the biggest inconvenience, and instead of giving her a new charge slip, he expected her to sign the original, tip and leave. I don't know what has happened at La Catrina, but I don't think we'll be going back there soon.

PS. They never did deduct the price of the shrimp added to the quesadilla; she just got her statement, she was charged the full amount. These guys are crooks, apparently very dishonest. We will never return, and if you don't want to get ripped off, I would suggest that you...

Feb 2021 (COVID Review)

TLDR: 9/10 - Excellent place to eat, drinks are unique and taste good. Good outdoor seating with shade, space, and comfort. Only negative is the loud cars that speed down the street, but not their fault! It’s more than worth it for the food, the drinks, and the nice Hollister vibe. Came here to off road at SVRa and ended it with some good food

The Drinks: Excellent selection. They put a good amount of booze and they have recipes I’ve never tried.

The food: Chips and Salsa are essential at any Mexican restaurant for starters, and they do it well. I like how the chips have little specs of garlic in them. The salsa is good, and not overwhelming.

They have a good menu of selections that aren’t typical in Texmex restaurants. This is authentic Mexican and worth a try if you’re in the area!

Covid Safety: They have outdoor seating and good space between tables. There is a nice breeze, and it looks like they clean the tables well between patrons. All things considered, they are doing a good...

My fiancé and I absolutely love this place. It is considered our spot. The only Mexican restaurant we will eat at in Hollister. Had an amazing experience for Valentine’s Day there as well. I reserved us our usual table. Service is always perfect. The food always delicious. We have taken her family there when they come to visit and they all love it as well.

We have never been disappointed even when they are busy we go to the bar and grab an amazing Cadillac margarita with Tajin rim. I’m still trying to figure out how to make it at home for her.

We will continue to go here once a week like we have been for the last year.
