When speaking with the locals, they suggested that the Downing Street Pour House was a restaurant our family had to try. We arrived around 5 PM.
The street that this restaurant is located on is probably one of the best parts. There are big wide treets that shade parts of the street, creating that small town cozy atmosphere that people often love. The restaurant is much larger than I originally thought after walking inside. It adopts the theme of a cabin/tavern, lending to a more rustic feel. We were seated by the windows.
The view from the windows was nice due to the large trees and cozy atmosphere. However, the worst part about the trip were the numerous flies that were extremely friendly with the guests. It’s hard to eat and enjoy the experience when you’re waving flies off your food and yourself. I would warn you against visiting due to the flies being such a burden, but if you’re placed in another location, perhaps they wouldn’t be an issue.
The waitress wasn’t all that impressive. She asked for drinks, and when we said water, she rolled her eyes and walked away. Not a great start for tourists visiting a new town, with our first meal being this one. But when we ordered, she had a look like we were irritating her. So, I’m not sure if she was just having a bad day or if her customer service wasn’t all that great. Either way, it didn’t pair well with the fly situation.
We ordered a mushroom burger and a double-smoked pork chop. The burger came with fries. Both the burger and the fries were good, but again, the insect atmosphere made it hard to enjoy properly. The pork chop was also good. Parts were pretty fatty though, so be aware. The grits and broccoli were fine, nothing too special or out of the ordinary.
Then we had the dessert, and that was amazing! Even though the plating looked like they just threw it on the plate, the flavors were great together! It was berries, ice cream, and crust, similar to a cheesecake crust. Sweet with a little bit of savory.
Overall, if you’re looking for an experience, you could consider this place. However, if you’re deciding between two restaurants, I would try somewhere else before visiting...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience today at Downing Street Pour House. I am in town visiting my family. Numerous family members suggested the Pour House as a great place to go and eat. Immediately after giving our drink orders, I inquired about whether or not the bread/buns had soy ingredients. Our server replied that they had Gluten Free buns. I politely clarified that my allergy was soy and that it is different from gluten. I asked her if the kitchen was able to check the bag that holds the bread/buns for any soy ingredients because it is often found in baked goods. She appeared frustrated but said she would check. A few minutes later she came back and said the kitchen told her that food falls on other food and things get mixed up in preparation and that she could not guarantee that my food would be soy free. No mention of the actual bread/buns or whether they were checked for ingredients. She then hovered over us waiting for our order. I had to request she leave and give us more time. We ended up leaving money on the table that more than covered the coke my mom had ordered. Another server suggested that we should speak to the manager. I declined. I only requested that the bags in which the buns/bread come were checked for their ingredients. I can tell a great deal about an establishment by how they react to a request such as mine. Many servers at restaurants are happy to check with the kitchen and in return the kitchen is happy to help as well. There are no snappy replies or frustrated looks received. Sadly, my experience today showed that many members of the staff at Downing Street Pour House lack good service skills. This review excludes the kind server who offered to get the manager for us. At that point I really just wanted to get out of the restaurant as...
Read moreI've been here a couple of times now and this is not my favorite place, but everyone else seems to really enjoyed it so I'm keeping it up at 4 stars.
It's a small restaurant attached to a hotel with outdoor seating as well. We came here to avoid Branson traffic and have good food and drinks. My lack of enthusiasm began with the limited menu... It it mainly burgers and sandwiches which aren't my favorite dinner vibe. The overall ambiance is difficult to have a meal in -it is LOUD in here. There are tvs playing, music playing and high ceilings giving everything an echo. It was hard for me to hear people at my own table.
On our last visit I ordered the chicken with potatoes and green beans. Chicken and potatoes had great flavor. The green beans were steamed and still very hard. The waitress switched them out for me to fries. Hubby had shrimp cocktail and the fish special. He liked the shrimp, the fish was a bit dry but had a nice flavor. Our friends really like the burgers here. We are currently eating gluten free and were a bit excited to see they had a flourless chocolate cake so we tried it. Overall the food was good, but nothing was really amazing.
The service has always been phenomenal anytime we've come.
They do have specialty beers and are more of a brewery type vibe. I don't drink beer, but I know this is a cool concept especially in this area. If that interests you, this place is...
