My husband and I ventured up to Big Cedar for a long weekend. We were using this as a much needed get away after a stressful holidays dealing with challenges with are aging parents. We ended up visiting the Osage twice. The night we arrived we went to Top of the Rock for dinner and to explore a little bit. It was a weeknight ..very quiet, service was excellent, absolutely loved the atmosphere and views and are food was very good...even though we ordered lighter fare as we didn't want a huge meal after traveling so far. We return back to the Osage on the weekend. While we found the food and atmosphere still very good despite the crowd, our service was horrible. Our reservations were for 6:30 ...and we didn't leave until almost 9pm. This was not because my husband and I took our time an ate a ridiculously leisurely meal. It all started when we started to make some inquires...At the Big Cedar Lodge we were presented with an opportunity to try the 3 course meal menu at the Osage. We asked the waiter about it and while he gave us an explanation he rolled his eyes when we asked to see the menu as he really couldn't tell us what exactly was on it ...it took him 10 minutes to bring the menus. My husband and I were both ready to ask the manager to move us...however if FINALLY return and decided to ride it out...big mistake. The rest of the night was very similar to this, whether it was to get our bread basket, a refill of ice tea or even just to check in. At one point my husband asked the waiter a questions as he was walking by and the waiter just gave him a quick 'yeah' ...didn't look at him, didn't even pause...just kept walking. The last straw for me was when he offered to bring me a second glass of wine...and then a little bit later we ordered dessert ....the dessert was served and eaten before I ever got my wine...which I would have canceled if I could either find our waiter or get his attention. I didn't want to waste the wine...so we sat a little longer for me to very quick consume the wine. I understand all the staff was busy, however even if he had occasionally dropped by to say 'I'll have your wine shortly" or "Hey I'm having a hard time locating those menus, but I'm working on getting them for you" would have been fine, but instead we were made to feel like it was an absolute burden for him to be waiting on us. People who came in this particular waiters sections after us were waited on and served and finished way before we were...for the amount of money we spent and the upscale feel ...I was very disappointed in the service on our second visit. I'm hoping this was a...
Read moreI went back and forth between individuals at Osage regarding a reservation for a larger party of over 10 people. This dinner was for a bachelor party.
I spoke with multiple individuals over a 2-3 month period of time, and received mixed information with every call. I was initially placed in the main dining hall, then a private room, then back in main dining but nothing seemed to be finalized every time I called. My confirmation emails were always confusing. Any individual I spoke to always had to “confirm with the manager”. Finally, I spoke with the manager, Jay, a few nights prior to our reservation date to finalize the plans. We were ultimately able to be reserved for the main dining hall for a 10+ party. He confirmed that a party of 10+ in the MAIN dining hall does NOT require a $2000 minimum (something we were previously told was the case).
Upon arrival, on time, I was told that our 7:00 PM reservation was delayed as the other party was still enjoying their dinner. Not a problem, except they told us it was a 30 to 40 minute wait. To me, this is unacceptable. 10-15 minutes is appropriate, but to wait 40 minutes for a reservation that we had confirmed seems unreasonable. I was told by the manager at that time to “go down to the bar and enjoy a beverage” as the party that was currently occupying the table was “still enjoying their experience and table, and spectacular views” for much longer than anticipated. Notably, at one half of the bar, 4 members of my party had to wait 15 minutes for 4 drinks, as the bartender did not seem to grasp the concept of time.
Even after being seated, our waitress had a terrible attitude. She was the most unfriendly, curt, and least pleasant waitress I have ever encountered. Others in my party agreed with my sentiment. The food was subpar. I had specified this was for a special event, no one seemed to provide any regard, and nothing was done, even though it was requested.
Overall, I am thoroughly disappointed in Osage. I had previously been here 7 years ago when visiting Branson, MO and had fond memories of the restaurant, atmosphere, and people. Something here has changed, and it is no longer the pillar of Table Rock that I had a memory of. I will not...
Read moreOn Sunday, 9.24, we had a dinner reservation for 1815. We arrived promptly, and we were asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating. We stated which had the best view of the sunset. We were seated outside on a side patio next to the final golf green, which had obstructed sunset views. To only be seated on what appeared to be a poor table design using a large wooden wheel for spooled wire or line. The table was enormous for two people in what should be a romantic setting. The chairs were uncomfortable at best. We were the only ones seated on this side and felt like outcasts from the normal visitors. We placed appetizer and drink orders. Waited for silverware after the appetizer arrived. Water was placed so far away that I had to stand and reach the middle of the oversized rustic wood table, which desperately needed sanding and a top coat to prevent splinters. Service was okay, but she came very infrequently since we were so far out of her way to even check in on us. The bread came before dinner, which seemed odd because we already had the appetizer and the second round of drinks. The second round of drinks came with a Free Fly nearly halfway inside the drink. We had to wait over 5 minutes for the server to arrive to get a fresh one. Only it is on the bill as a full-price drink and not complimentary as clearly a mistake on the restaurant's. No apology, no sorry about that. We will make it right. It's just a joke about, well, you are sitting outside. The food was prepared and was amazing. The Bison was really fatty, but I dealt with it as the flavor was perfect. Overall service was maybe 1.5/ 5, and seating and area was a 0/5. A golfer nearly hit me as his ball was sliced hard left and struck right below where we were sitting. Food was a 3.5/5, especially for the price, drinks 0/5 as $20 for an old fashion that came with a fly. Don't start with $10 to get into the place to experience this. That included dinner for 2, which was $360, which seemed like we should experienced something amazing instead of what I could have gotten at any steak house. I know we will not be revisiting this restaurant, nor will we recommend it to anyone. Thought you would do better during the off-season...
