Islander Drive Inn — Restaurant in Honolulu

Tried the Chicken Katsu Curry which tastes more like a chicken ramen flavor mixed with a gravy, pretty salty. I wasn't thinking it would be an actual scratch curry but I've had a similar dish from South Korea and that was scratch made. Not a fan of places that the food tastes like it's from a powder container, but typical nowadays. Use some vegetables at least in the preparation of the curry or cut the salt in half.

As for the food portions, the price is quite acceptable. Id say have the sauce as a side dip instead given how it's closer to a salty gravy. Katsu breading had a good flavor and the chicken cooked well. Id eat here again if near by as curry aside, food was good generally.

That all considered being in Hawaii first time seems customer service in saying hi or really responding is missing. I thought it was a one off but even here to get to respond had to repeat an inquiry. Seems odd but not being from here maybe...

My family and I live fairly close by. We decided to give this place a try one night and we loved the food. When I arrived to pick up my order I was greeted with a warm welcome. The cashier was nice and polite to me just like she was when I ordered on the phone. unfortunately I didn’t catch her name. The food was still nice and warm when I got home. My family and I agreed the food was good and saved this place as a place we’d like to come back to. I went today to grab a late lunch for us. Was still yummy and the food was nice and warm. The portions are good, but then again I don’t eat much so what may be a good portion for me might not be considered a good portion for you. I've been coming to Islander for many years to buy food for my mom ... now that she's in a retirement home I haven't found the need to come by very often. I was at Longs so I stopped by to pick up something for myself ... the fried rice with BBQ meat plate. This was something special back in the day but this plate was disappointing. The fried rice was pretty bland and the BBQ meat was dry. Did something happen to one of my favorite places to get a plate lunch? I'll give them one more chance the next time I'm in...
